Question X50V & Garmin GPS 10 - have to keep entering GPS 10 passkey

I reverted back to WM2003SE from WM5 a while ago. And I'm now noticing that whenever I run my GPS program (Garmin Que or TomTom Navigator 5), that I need to re-enter the GPS 10's Passkey to connect to it - like it's not paired correctly for Bluetooth.

I've tried deleting the GPS 10, and then re-adding it to my BT paired devices. But whenever I power off the GPS 10, and then power it on again and restart the GPS program, I get the dialog again to re-enter the passkey to pair the device. Anyone got any ideas for this?

It sounds like your GPS is forgetting about the pairing. I'm not sure why this would happen. It's happened to me once when I ran the GPS until flat and didn't recharge immediately. There maybe some kind of backup battery in the unit that isn't charging and therefore causing your GPS to forget the pairing.

My BT GPS (not a garmin) unit has a tiny (~3mm dia x <1 mm thick) coin cell (watch battery) to keep the clocks going when the main battery power is not available - to improve initial capture times apparently, but could likely be used to save other data as well.

Your unit's cell could be dead. :(

The one in mine is soldered in place, so it's not something the user is supposed to be able to replace, but it would not be an impossible job.

For anyone interested... I just got off the phone with Garmin. They indicated I have to keep entering the GPS 10's passkey because I have "Secure Connection" checked. Unchecking the Secure Connection option should eliminate this problem. I'll try this out when I get home tonight to verify, but it makes sense.

That's correct. Since you're running WM2003SE again, you need to remember to uncheck the "Secure Connection". Else, it will keep asking for the passkey.
