You maybe confusing "evil" with a lack of knowledge. It is common for Windows to lock files while it is using them. Most times all you need to do is reboot your computer after you uninstall a program before you try delete the folder the program was installed into. As for the space in the name, you can place the name of the directory (including the space) in quotes i.e. "holux " when using DOS commands.

Nothing was locked by windows. I hadn't removed the program. I simply moved the shortcut to my GPS directory. I then wanted to remove the Holux directory which was now empty. We're talking about the directories for the start menu and programs. They are all just simple directories that contain shortcuts.
I thought I tried using quotes once but it didn't work. Like:
RD "HOLUX "
Perhaps it was a backspace and not a space. Who knows. I expect a lot more from a manufacturer. It is what the read-only attribute is for. You either do things the proper way or you don't. Holux decided to act like hackers and I will always think of them that way now. They can not be trusted for even the most basic things. I will never buy any more products from them.
And, while it is true the solution wasn't that difficult, the fact remains that they pulled a hacker trick and didn't use the read-only attribute which would have been the proper way to handle things. I shouldn't have had to look for a solution. They have lost my respect, and my bussiness! There is no excuse! <-Period.
