Mad Dirty tricks from HOLUX! Beware!

My Bluetooth Holux GPSlim 236 seems to work great! Hooray!

But during installation of their software on my laptop they created a directory called "HOLUX ". Notice the extra space at the end of the word HOLUX. I can't delete this fracking directory no matter what I try! How dare that God d#$ Son of a B&*tichen company put a directory on my machine I can't delete! What fracking nerve! Makes me wonder what other crap they have pulled that I haven't found yet!
Frack HOLUX!

BEWARE OF DIRTY TRICKS FROM HOLUX!!!
:realmad:

Edit:
The directory was under Start Menu\Programs. It was just the directory for the shortcut. I moved the shortcut and no longer needed nor wanted to look at the empty Holux directory when I clicked on Start, Programs.

Hmmm... finally got it with:
RD HOLUX~1
I used the short DOS name. You can get the short name with dir /x. If you use:
RD HOLUX
then that doesn't work. Not even in safe mode/safe mode command prompt.

I don't like tricksters, especially if I spend $75 on their product. Grrrrrrrrr!

look. its not a "dirty trick" ok. obviusly you have limited computer knowge and you got confussed. it is not abnormal for programs to create entitties which cannot be remved.

They could have given it a read-only attribute and that would have been fine. That is the proper way to keep people from deleting a directory or file. Using unrecognizable characters to keep people from deleting something is evil. Hackers do crap like that. Its a dirty trick and shows the mind-set of the people at Holux. Next they'll be using root-kits like Sony! Holux has lost my respect completely.

You maybe confusing "evil" with a lack of knowledge. It is common for Windows to lock files while it is using them. Most times all you need to do is reboot your computer after you uninstall a program before you try delete the folder the program was installed into. As for the space in the name, you can place the name of the directory (including the space) in quotes i.e. "holux " when using DOS commands.

I suspect this was incompetence rather than deliberate attempt to screw you. The only way I have found to delete it is, from a cmd prompt:

rmdir "\\?\C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\holux "

Nothing was locked by windows. I hadn't removed the program. I simply moved the shortcut to my GPS directory. I then wanted to remove the Holux directory which was now empty. We're talking about the directories for the start menu and programs. They are all just simple directories that contain shortcuts.

I thought I tried using quotes once but it didn't work. Like:
RD "HOLUX "
Perhaps it was a backspace and not a space. Who knows. I expect a lot more from a manufacturer. It is what the read-only attribute is for. You either do things the proper way or you don't. Holux decided to act like hackers and I will always think of them that way now. They can not be trusted for even the most basic things. I will never buy any more products from them.

And, while it is true the solution wasn't that difficult, the fact remains that they pulled a hacker trick and didn't use the read-only attribute which would have been the proper way to handle things. I shouldn't have had to look for a solution. They have lost my respect, and my bussiness! There is no excuse! <-Period.

A bit harsh... maybe they could have been better in user education, but certainly no where near evil.

it's your choice of who you buy from i suppose, but their reputation hasn't been effected in my eyes

LOL I thought you were stark raving for a moment there there then I realised that you must surely be joking. I know what you mean though it is annoying when programmers write bossy code. After all , it is *my* computer not theirs.....

if you really REALLY want to prove your self, i can decompile the drivers and see if at any point the program makes an "undeleteible" DIR.

I would be a lot more sympathtic, but honestly I do not believe Holux are hackers and thus I believe you are blowing this way out of proportion. If you would have simply stated that Holux installed a folder which was really hard to delete, and they should not be, I would have agreed whole-heartedly. But to say a company is hacking because a single folder was unable to be deleted is a bit to far.

Just my 1.5 cents worth or maybe 0.00000000015 cents worth.
