GPS Recommendation Needed
I was considering getting a GPS for my X50V. When I went to the Dell site, I found at least 6 different GPS's, varying in price from $149 to $290. Some came with NAVTEQ or Ostia navigation software and some came with nothing extra. Some were bluetooth and some were cable.

I'm just so confused. Does anyone have recommendations on what would be the best GPS to get (even if it's not Dell)? Is NAVTEQ or Ostia good or should I buy some third party software?

And, just as important, does anyone know of coupons to lower the price?

Thanks!

Go to the GPS/Hardware section of this forum, and visit www.gpspassion.com for reviews.

Personally, I like the simplicity of iGuidance and use that with the Globalsat BT-338 on my x51v without any problems. You can find discounted bundles at semsons.com or buygpsnow.com (find discount codes on this forum under Shopping/Discounts).

Dell's GPS program is basically the same as iGuidance, but I've read that Dell tends to update theirs slower - and iGuidance has free and discounted upgrade paths depending on when you bought the software. Plus, iGuidance comes with a laptop version for the same price (don't think Dell does, but I'm not sure).

I really like my Pharos Bluetooth GPS receiver.

It is so nice not to have cables hanging all over the dash plus it makes it even easier to hold the PDA when you need to.

My boss had a cabled GPS and it was quite ritating to keep use compared to the wireless Bluetooth device.

Good grief. I guess I need to change the batteries in my wireless keyboard too...

It was supposed to read "My boss had a cabled GPS and it was quite irritating to use compared to the wireless Bluetooth device."

Sorry for the disruption...

Like solara, I have IGuidance and the BT339. They work very well on my x51v. My only complaint is the routing on IGuidance - it's a bit questionable at times, i.e. the proposed shortest route is not always the actaul shortest route.

I'm a fan of Pharos SD with Ostia. I use mine with Intelligolf and StarCaddy. Works great. Got mine from ebay.

It would seem to me that the Pharos SD would be handiest if you were hiking or walking/biking. At least then you don't have to keep track of a separate device.

I have the Garmin GPS 10 with software. It has worked great for me all over the country and would highly recommend it with the 50V.

If you happen on Destinator, be a little bit careful !
As a GPS system it's very, very good BUT I had to install a patch to be able to see all pages of the program in their entirety on the screen. For all that, the prog seems to be working well & has a lot to offer - very easy to set up & use. Good luck

I have the iBlue and iGuidance package from buygpsnow.com. The receiver is quite sensitive (I can easily get 6-10 satellites), and the software is remarkable. Very accurate, and quickly recalculates the route if you miss or purposely skip a turn.
