OCN 5.3 patch
I don't know if this is actually news to anyone, or if I just got this because I registered my new OCN5 last night. Either way, I just got the following email from the OCN people:
Dear Valued Customers,
We would like to inform you that there is an interim patch for OCN5 that
fixes the ETA, improves routing algorithm, and improves altitude info
issues. If you do not experience any of the issues above, you may safely
ignore this email.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to get the interim patch?
1. Visit www.oncoursenavigator.com
2. Log in to your MyOCN account
3. Click Special Notice - OCN5 interim patch
4. Select the patch file which matches to your PocketPC operation system and
5. Click download
Note: Please do not UNZIP the file but simply copy it to your SD/CF storage
card.
The software will be downloaded to your PC.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to install the interim patch?
1. Copy the downloaded patch to your SD/CF card
2. Back up your device.bin file on your PDA to avoid a reactivation of OCN5
afterwards. This file is located at \Program Files\EasyPocketNAV\OnCourse
Navigator\.
Therefore, copy the file called "device" and save it on your SD/CF card.
IMPORTANT: You will need this "device" file again to avoid activating the
software after the new patch is installed. See more below.
3. Un-install OCN5. Simply go to Start | Settings | System tab | and tap on
Remove Program icon and highlight "EasyPocketNAV OnCourse Navigator" and tap
on Remove button.
Once done, you will be prompted to soft-reset or reboot the PDA.
4. Next insert the SD/CF card which contains the patch file to your PDA, use
File Explorer to locate the file, tap on it once to start installation, and
soft-reset as instructed.
5. Finally, copy the device file you backed up in step 1 above to the
\Program Files\EasyPocketNAV\OnCourse Navigator folder and launch OCN5 as usual.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Best Regards,
OnCourse Navigator Team
Easy PocketNAV.com LLC
www.OnCourseNavigator.com No, I haven't tried it yet, gimme a break, I just got the base product installed yesterday! But gimme 24 hours. Heh.

I'm pretty sure this is NOT OcN 5.3. This is an interim patch for folks having routing or ETA problems that fixes those problems until the 5.3 update is released. Per their website:
http://www.oncoursenavigator.com/for...&f=5&p=1#m4260
Which says:
=====================
Dear Valued Customers,
We would like to inform you that there is an interim patch for OCN5 that fixes:
1. the ETA,
2. improves routing algorithm, and
3. improves altitude info.
If you do not experience any of the issues above, you may safely ignore this email and install the next patch (Version 5.3) which will be released in the next few weeks.

Regards,
Gary

Oh... Oops
Yeah, when I log in and get the download, the filename is USEnglish_MN50.cab, so it sounds like it is just 5.0.something, NOT 5.3. I haven't actually installed it yet but I bet you are right.
Darn it. Sorry for the confusion. I guess I was a little too excited with my new toys, er, tools. Perhaps I should go back to lurk mode now... :hide:
