GlobalSat Vs i.Trek Vs Holux

Did anybody use GlobalSat or i.Trek CF receiver. They look just like the Holux receiver but are cheaper( the GlobalSat receiver is selling for $120 at semsons -about $30 cheaper than Holux). Also the GlobalSat receiver comes with an external antenna included in the price.

Thanks

I just saw this on GpsPassion. This is what the site says about the receiver :

"I just noticed that Semsons (a GpsPasSion Club member) had added the Globalsat BC-307 CF GPS receiver to their roster, which by my count is the cheapest SiRF IIe/LP CF GPS receiver on the market today at $120 and it even comes with a long external antenna and PCMCIA adapter!

Globalsat sent me an evaluation version a couple of weeks ago and I've found it to perform on par with the existing top CF GPS performers like the Holux GM-270, Fortuna PocketTrack and Haicom HI303MMF. The added bonus is that it comes with the latest 2.30 SiRF firmware that provides more SBAS info and geodetic correction."

Looks like a great deal !!

For some reason when I first got my i.Trek, I couldn't get a lock from inside my car. It might have had something to do with the fact that it was shipped from California to me in Tennessee, and needed to reset itself. Once I got my first location fix outside in a clear area, I have had ZERO problems staying connected while in a car (even in the back seat without the advantage of the front windshield.) The card says 270 on it, and the driver is for the Holux as well. Excellent deal in my opinion... :)

Do you happen to know if the i.Trek is the Holux Ultra?

I use it here at home, and thought it worked pretty well, but when I got to Dallas and started driving on roads that I was not familiar with, it was typically 100 yards off when at highway speeds, and about 50 feet off when stopped at a light....

I have heard about the Ultra being slow due to its "polling/averaging" whatever and was wondering if there was any way to disable that feature...

p.s. I was using Mapopolis trial version.....similar to my earlier findings, I fing Mapopolis right on here at home, but down in Dallas where I was "finding" my way, I was a little disspointed in the amount of times I was given the direction to "right turn on Unnamed street"..combine this with a GPS that is between 50 feet and 100 yards off and it leads to a few U-Turns....

;-)
