after messing around for the longest time I finally managed to work out how to use the .gpx file from geocaching.com in streets and trips handheld. Don't know how many of you here need it, but here you go

get the gpx file
goto http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/ and choose gpx for input, and SA HH 2006 for output. load your file and download it. that will convert it to the correct format, but its all in 1 file. the waypoints in S&T can only have 1 line in them
run a small VBS script the wife and i made to parse out the lines of the converted file into individual files.
copy the individual files to your my docs on the axim
fire up S&T on the axim and boom! there you go, your waypoints!

i can post the vbs script later, i'm stuck at work for now

Why not just become a member at geocaching.com and download the gpx files directly with pocket queries?

i am a member and i do the queries for the gpx's :P

but S&T can't read GPX, only topo can. you have to get it into their format, which is annoying

That explains it, I've got the new TOPO, makes life much easier.
