Help Choosing

Hi, I've finally decided to get GPS for my x50v. What I'm looking for is a good bluetooth receiver and software. The most important things are price (as cheap as possible without comprimising quality too much) and functionality. Size, weight, looks, battery life are not an issue as I will mostly use it in my car with the unit plugged into an inverter.

EDIT: If possible I would also like accuracy and software that has the most map coverage ( I live in a semi rural area).

Soooo many choices. FWIW, I use the iTrek M3 (http://semsons.com/im3blgpsresi.html)
from Semsons. I love it; small, gets a quick fix, comes with a leather case that you can put on your belt, long battery life, fair price. Semsons also carries the newer M5 for a few bucks less. Don't know anything about it, but the specs look good.

For software, again, so many choices. Everybody loves their choice, so take recommendations with a grain of salt and know that you'll probably end up trying, i.e., buying more than one program before you settle on the one that works for you. I use TomTom, and despite all the complaints that people may have, it works perfectly for me. However, I also have Mapopolis and iGuidance, which I almost never use anymore. The upcoming iGuidance 3 looks promising.

Aximsitex50icon iGuidance

I ended up with the iGuidance and OnCourse SiRF Star III BT from buygpsnow.com. Have had for about 2 months and has more than met my needs.

:approve: First off - Bluetooth rocks! No cables, cords, tiedowns, tangles, plug in problems. It does not use the battery in the Dell like a CF connection does.

:approve: The SS3 is very good. I've used it from cities to the canyons of Utah and always had a signal. Cold start has been less than 60 seconds and warm is 10-15.

:approve: IGuidance software has exceeded my expectations. I got it for basic dependable maps and directions. I've seen Tom-Tom and it's good too. Frankly, I never use 3D view.

Arkon vent mount......jury's still out. It works on my 91 Honda but not on any of my other cars or rental cars I've had in the past 6 months. Different clips?

:approve: buygpsnow experience was very good. I emailed questions and got intelligent responses befor emaking a choice. Asked customer service a question after the sale and got a very good response. Very good = intelligent, didn't make me feel like I was bothering them, fast and accurate. The bundle price was very reasonable.

Have fun!

I am happy with the OCN5 / I-Blue combo I got from BuyGPSNow. Everything works properly and all the continental US maps (part of the US-L package) fit on one 2GB SD Card. I advise against the Arkon DM320 mount. Mine didn't last 30 days. It just fell apart like wet toilet paper. I've ordered a Seidio G4500, and I hope for better results.

Read Mr. Jake Rich's articles.

GPS on the Axim is fun and useful. I've learned shortcuts I never would have tried to find. Wade in and spend some of your toy money.
