Cool X51V-624, GLOBALSAT BC337 CF and TomTom 5

Hi @ all.
I've got Dell X51V-624 (Rev. A01. italian), with GLOBALSAT BC337 SIRFSTAR III COMPACT FLASH GPS RECEIVER. After installing the patch, the gps is correctly recognized by palm.
Infact the GpsInfo software works fine.
But Tom Tom 5.21 tells me that there are no valid gps devices installed.
So here it is the question to the professionists of this forum :
Which gps software to install ?
I've search around the web and in this forum but unfortunately no thread found.
Really thanks to who will be waste his time with my question.
Nicola.

Hi Nicola - welcome to Aximsite :) ...

Probably TomTom is not configured to recognise the GPS port...

Try this - from the main navigation screen press the lower righthand corner (where the GPS signal strength indicator and time are). This will bring up another menu which would normally show you your route - in the top righthand corner is the GPS signal strength indicator again, press this, which will bring up the GPR statud page. Press the Configure button. When prompted select "Other Bluetooth GPS", you'll then get a message asking you to pair your bluetooth device with the PDA (I'm assuming you've already done this). Press continue and another menu apears "GPS is connected to". Select "COM7" which is the port your GPS will normally be on, if not choose the correct port.

You *should* now have TomTom working and should only have to do this once. Although I've noticed TomTom does sometimes need to be "reminded"....

Any problem let me know....

Ah.. I use a Bluetooth GPS... sorry just assumed it was the same - may bad

I would think it's the same as your compact flash GPS is still going to be talking to the machine via a "COM" port - in which case you'll need to tell TomTom what the port is and all should be fine.. I've just checked TomTom and it looks as if there is no default option to tell it you're using a CF GPS device... If you can find the port (you used another program to view the GPS data, that should tell you the port) then you should be able to tell TomTom to talk to the device on that port... - I think :rolling: :rolling:

Let me know how you get on...

I've just dome some digging - try selecting from the "specify yor GPS Hardware" page "Other NMEA GPS" - set the baud rate to 4800 (defaut) and choose COM2 or COM3. This *should* work..

Nicole, i've done som emore digging (you gotta love Google)... it looks like many people have had the issue with CF GPS devices and swapped over to a BlueTooth one...

have a read of this thread on aximsite...

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=121632

other than that i'm not sure as you've tried everything I would have.. maybe the next step is to contact TomTom for support?

Hope yo get it working :)
