Holux 236 and x50v 2003se HELP!!!

Hi I just got my Holux 236 Bluetooth GPS in the mail but i'm having problems setting it up...

I installed the gpsviewer program that came wth it to test out the signal but heres the problem

I set the unit to 38400 baud and did a scan but no good... all i get are NONE or OPEN FAILED

Went into the BT manager and explore new device and discoverd the service and then went to my shortcut and saw the connection and connected, then i checked the active connecton and saw that it was connected

then i went back and did the scanning thingy and it still came out OPEN FAILED or NONE

I even went to tools in the bluetooth manager and did the pair thing and it paired ok but still no good

I searched everywhere and read through about 40 pages from the gpspassion forum but it still gave me a no answer except to reset my unit...

SO i open the sucker up and reset it just liek it says to but still no good

occasionally when i scan it scans up to com 6 then it ask me to choose a bluetooth devce so i choose the holux and it freezes for a bit and does it's thing ans then boom NOTHING happens it says OPEN FAILED or NONE for everything and thats it....

Im soooo frustrated right now...

Use the BT manager to pair it to the Axim. Then use GPSViewer to autofind it, but don't force the Baud rate to 38400. Let it search for the GPS signal completely. Once it finds the signal, not what the baud and port are, then set that into your software. The BT connection may be 38400, but the com port is more likely at 4800 baud.

what software are you using for your navigation software? iguidance, destinator pn, tom tom?
I have the Axim x51v paired with Holux GPSlim 236 BT and i use Destinator PN. I connected the Blue tooth ok, in the Navi software i have it set the baud rate at 58700 outgoing nothing set incoming. It works fine without problems. I recently found out that Holux GPSlim 236 is NMEA protocol not SiRF 3, may have to reprogram the Holux to SiRF 3, but the Holux does support SiRF 3 protocol. fyi.

If its already set up as SPP slave, then

1. turn both your PPC and GPS BT.
2. open PPC BT manager.
3. tap and hold on Holux 236 > connect.
4. Mine is set to COM 7 and baud rate to 38400 (4800 works too). Try that.
5. Now open GPSViewer (or any other application) and see if it connects properly.

I've already tried everything that you guys suggested but none of them work....I;m using tomtom 5.21, iguidance, heck i even tried the GPS VIEWER software that came with it.... My serial reads 613 so i know it;s the latest firmware

I tried shorting the unit again but no worky....Im tempted to de-older the internal battery to reset the ram setting on the gps unit but i don;t wanna mess with the warranty so i guess i'll just return the unit

The darn unit didn;t even work when i first took it out of the mailbox It was dead on arrival... I already e-mailed the ebay seller and hoplux but so far no repsonse from Holux or the Ebay seller

BTW i got it from the ebay seller MerchantRun any of you guys have any experience with this guy??? he has a 98% positive rating but i'm a bit concerned about the 230ish cases of bad service and negative feedback peple left him all of them saying he never responds to e-mail....

Almost no software uses the Sirf Protocol. Almost all software uses NMEA protocol. A few, made by Garmin, use the Garmin protocol, but also the NMEA. NMEA is the commonly accepted standard. Unless you have software that is only for Sirf protocol, don't change.

BTW, if you meant the SirfStar 3 chipset, the units that use the receiver also mostly use NMEA interface protocols. About the only reason to switch to Sirf would be to control internal settings on the unit, but then you'd need to switch back to NMEA to
use it with your navigation software.
