Hmm x30 Sapphire gps crawling

I have an Axim x30 (high) and recently bought a Royaltek Sapphire GPS mouse. I'm using a "y splitter" that charges the x30 and powers the gps unit. When I turn the unit on after a soft reset, it takes around 5-7 mins for the unit to turn on. Once it does turn on everything runs very slow. My navigation software (iNavigator) does not detect it either. I know the gps works (because I have connected it to my laptop with a serial connection) so I know it must be the x30. Thanks in advance.
