Cable to connect Axim to Garmin GPS48?
I'm interested in finding a cable that would connect my Axim to my Garmin GPS48, and ideally have a 12V plug that would power both. I'd like to be able to run OziExplorer CE on the Ax and use my GPS48 rather than buy a CF gps unit. Any advice welcome!

Did you try PC-Mobile at http://pc-mobile.net/gps.htm? It sounds like you need a Garmin R-type connector cable for the Axim. They have one for about $30 that includes the power connector for the Axim; don't know about powering the GPS48.

I have a similar situation (I have a Garmin eMap) but decided to go with the CF GPS unit to reduce cable clutter in my SUV.

I recieved my pcmobile cable yesterday. I got the version that connects to a garmen ETrex Summit. and also got he power cable (they have a package deal). There is no power to the GPS. On the pcmobile site they recomend using rechargable batteries and using a separate charger for the GPS. The PDA power cable is a USB power cable with an adapter that will plug into a car lighter.

It took a week to get it. Looks good so far, but all I've tried it with is pocket streets. I'm going to try ozi explorer next.

You need to read the notes on the pcmobile site for the AXIM cable. There are some limitations. You have to start the app on the AXIM and get it looking for GPS data before having the GPS start sending data. Also, they said you cannot upload waypoints to the GPS.

There was another thread about do it yourself serial cables where they were adding a circuit to fix these problems. The cable I got looks like it will pop open pretty easily, so I may try this fix later. I figure I should play with it a little before breaking it.

I did read on the pcmobile site that you can't upload waypoints from the Ax to the GPS, but I don't think I'd need to. I use Ozi on my PC to create waypoints, then download to the GPS. I doubt I'd be creating waypoints on the Ax.
