Same here Solsie. I have all my maps stored in a CF card and a bluetooth receiver is very important to me. The widcomm stack hacked by beemer and mikelspikel are a lot more reliable and functional than the cheap microsoft stack that came with the X51.
I also second the BT solution. If you get a CF GPS, that eliminates the use of the CFas a storage device while you are using the GPS. I have also heard rumours of wake up problems with the CF GPS's and the x51.
I think the Dell GPS and software work great. The version I received from Dell would only work on WM 2003. There is an update I downloded that works perfectly on WM 5.
Thanks for the info. After 5 1/2 hours on the phone, I have decided to return the Navteq and look into a compact flash solution.
I can't thank you enough for all of your suggestions.:)
Nooooooooo!!!!!!!
Don't go CF!!! CF and WM5 are a nono and thought there are some ways to get cf to work, you will likely always have annoying issues. There are tons of people who have the Dell nav package and the x51v , the combo does indeed work. A search of previous posts here will get you far more help than your 5 1/2 hour support call. The biggest downside to the DELL is that it isn't a great bargain. If you're sold on switching, stick with a bluetooth based solution (SirfIII or newer, iBlue, etc.) and something like iGuidance (similar to Dell's, I can confirm it works well), TomTom or Oncourse Navigator. As suggested, BuyGPSnow and Semsons have attractive package deals.

I've been using the Navteq software on my X51v for several months with no problems. I even upgraded from the BT-309 that came with the Dell package to an Oncourse BT-339. I have had my Maps on a CF card at first and then transfered them to a larger SD card.
I have a first-gen belkin BT gps and use iGuidance 2.1.3 for the software. No problems. When I added the belkin as a new blue tooth device I had to add an outgoing port in the BT settings. From there it was just a matter of firing up the software and doing the basic setup (autoconnect). I like having a BT unit because I can use it with my laptop or my smartphone. I'm getting a new gps unit soon since mine is not very accurate, but it does work with no issues.
Read quite a bit before I took the plunge and found the Holux 236 bt reciever and Tomtom Navigator 5 both worked straight away and never had a problem .....Mpegman:approve:
Okay lets hear some reasons why to stay away from CF GPS's , mine works so why not? or are you guy's just saying that for "The just because" no reason given response...
In general, CF GPS will have problem with Dell X51v running WM5 without a patch. Few programs such iGuidance will work with CF GPS without the patch but many others such as OCN and TomTom will not work CF GPS.
There is a patch for CF GPS under WM5 but it is not 100% guarantee working. Go with Bluetooth GPS will save yourself a lot of trouble.
Okay CF GPS has a problem, that much has been said already, and not to be an ass but what is the problem? or what does this patch fix? some details to describe the issue would be nice.
I'm using my GPS right now through the CF port with no issues, it was plug and play.
Already said in this thread, but most people will go for a Bluetooth GPS. I chose a Holux GPSlim 236 (Bluetooth -- same as Globalsat BT-338) and TomTom software for my X51v.
I don't know if it's still popular, but I bought it because it has a jack for an external antenna and you could also buy a cable to use it with a laptop.
Simple.. if you are buying a new receiver then go for the BT GPS. I am using a Holux GPSlim 236 + GPSProxy + Garmin Cue and very happy with it. Just a bit of learning curve at the beginning for the setup though... However for this combination you would need to have a working copy of Garmin Mapsource and also a local map. Come to think of it, there's still many other options for the GPS s/w.
I have a Garmin GPS 10 Bluetooth receiver. I run the Garmin Que software on my Axim X51v with WM5. I store maps for the eastern half of the United States on a CF card. The original setup was not smooth, but once I got together it's been wonderful.
Thanks for the info. After 5 1/2 hours on the phone, I have decided to return the Navteq and look into a compact flash solution.

I'm using a x51v WM5 with a Holux GPSlim 236 (Bluetooth) without troubles.
The GPS icon in the settings system section has been configured: Gps program port COM8, Gps hardware port COM7 and "Manage GPS automatically" is checked.
