I bought the Dell gps package, and it worked right out of the box, after installing the maps. The secret was to let the navigation software find the receiver, instead of activing the GPS icon. The receiver is quite strong too, since I position it low on the dashboard console.

Thanks for all your hard work. I am glad that some of you had success right out of the box. I didn't buy the CS card, but I know that it worked for some of you.

I'm going to let the technology mature a bit before jumping back in. I think I will wait until Dell tech support can help me with the hardware they sell.

In their defense, after my 6th-7th hour on the phone I was transferred to someone who told me it could work, but it's just a "bear" to get started. I am glad to know there was one tech support rep that actually had an Axim and a GPS that they used. He was very nice and quite knowledgeable.

Would any of you care to join Dell? I'd be happy to have you with your experience help me solve my problem in under 7 hours.

I've always believed if you are going to sell a car, you had better know how to drive. I can't picture someone advising others about hardware combinations or solutions without some experience themselves.

Dell deeply apologized for all mess they put me through. The said they were investigating my situation and would add additional training for their employees in the area of GPS and Axim X51vs.

I'll check back in a couple of years.

Couple of Years...!?!?!?

In a couple of years.......this will all be ancient technology!!! I use my BT Rikaline/DestinatorPN combo nightly. The software comes with a little sheet called INSTRUCTIONS..... if you'll read them, follow them, & apply them.....97.8% (Random #....just for effect...) of the software/hardware combinations will work by at least the 3rd time you try. If not....someone here has already tried their 3 times and has posted the way they got it to work......don't be that person rolled over in a ditch because you were driving down the road fumbling with that big ole' paper map. C'mon... you got the Ax to use it......so.....use it! You'll love it once you get it workin'!! Let us know...... We'll be anxiously awaiting!

New to the site as well as Axim X51V. Finally got my X51V /Car charger/Pharos 360 work! Some facts let to share with others:

1>.X51V starts to charge its battery when its input voltage is between 5.2V - 6.0V.
2>.X51V shut off its internal charger battery circuit if the external power supply can not provide > 500mA current even it maintains 5.4V.
3>.X51V need up to 800mA when battery is very low and 200mA when battery is fully charged with screen on.
4>.It needs only one line (Rx) from X51V to receive data from GPS receiver (Like pharos 360).
5>.GPS 360 needs about 70mA of current @ 5.0 V supply.
6>.I used LM317T as a voltage regulator to step down 12V to 5.4V. It needs a BIG heat sink to cool it down.
7>. I don't believe the cheap car charger can work for X51V. (12V-5.4V with 1A ouput)
8>. If anyone is interesting about the schematics. I can post it later.

Hold on......... Any reason why it doesn't work? It works fine for me! Oh, make sure you download the patch........

It just doesn't work with the Widcomm stack for me.

P.S. As someone said, don't follow the instructions. DO NOT PAIR IT WITH YOUR AXIM!!! Simply let the Nagivigation software do it.

Gps...

I have been using a iGuidance 3 GPS Navigation Software + i-Blue High Sensitivity BT GPS (Auto On/Off) for Pocket PC & PC, which came with a free UMPC (FREE Arkon Mount).

The entire package was approximately $200. Purchased all items from Buy GPS Now. So far it has gotten me where ever I tell it to take me.

Good luck.

If I try without update, then my axim has massage that my sound fail is missing.
