Does anyone use a GPS with their X51v? Desperate!!

I am desperately trying to find someone that is happy with a GPS / map combination they use with their X51v.

Dell sold me an incompatible system (Bluetooth GPS Navigation System). I bought it from a sales associate on their order line. Two sales people and a technical support guy said it would work, but they were WRONG. Yes, it connects with the Bluetooth GPS, but the software that has the maps won't work. The Axim also doesn't recognise the GPS as a GPS device, just a Bluetooth device.

I've read that Pharos is horrible! Please someone help me. It doesn't seem that anyone at Dell can. I'm on the phone for the third time as I am writing this post. I want to return the whole thing and buy something that works.

Microsoft streets 2006 is on the way-delivery Thurs.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I personally use the Teletype Compact Flash card style GPS.
Works just fine with Pocket Streets 2006

Am at work so I dont have my MS support ticket #.... but, I contacted them about a month ago because my pocket streets maps would not work with my x51v WM 5. All they could provide was a work around that required changing the mps file to html or bmp format. I am still looking for a gps that is certified to work with WM5.

I just got the Micro 2006 streets and trips with the GPS just a week or so ago, and use it with Pharos CF adpater as well, and it works very well, the GPS unit is a Pharos as well. it was basically plug and play and for $89 i could not pass it up.

Now to be honest the maps sizes are to small for me and I wished it would connect the maps together instead of me having to open in a new map when i'm out of area..

I wonder if there is better software that would work the way I need it too

Go to Mapopolis.com You can download the software and a few demo maps to try out. I use it with my x51 daily and highly recommend it. As far as how the Axim recognizes the bluetooth GPS....it should just see it as a serial device, with incoming and outgoing ports that you set up in the program.

A GREAT resource is gpspassion.com btw....mapopolis has a forum there and they deal personally whenever possible with issues people are having with their product. They also have a very interactive beta program that everyone is free to participate in.

BTW, a friend of mine bought the Dell GPS software and hardware package when he bought his x51 and seems to be pretty pleased with it. I kinda wonder if maybe you are having a setup problem, possibly because of the GPSGate program that is built into the x51, and you just haven't gotten to anyone that can configure it properly yet.

I don't think I'd be much help because I haven't played with the software, but I'd recommend turning off the GPSGate program, unless you need the GPS data to go to multiple programs.

Steve, do you travel from city to city? and state? and if you do , does it go from map to map by itself?

I've traveled cross country with it. You load the maps you need, which is not well explained in the documentation, but there's are some tricks to it. Going from map to map is absolutely seamless.

Mapopolis presently uses county based maps which seems cumbersome, but with just a bit of practice with it, it becomes quite easy to use. I can now route to anywhere in the country within a minute or 2, with a full corridor map, without knowing the county I'm going to. All you need to know is the city and state, from there you can get everything you need.

As I've said in a previous post, I use a bluetooth GPS receiver with my x51 with no problem at all. I have a BT-338 and find it a very good unit, quick lock and great battery life. It's also one of the new SirfIII units that was very important to me.

I was using this \ard with x5 advanced, then I bought x51v but gps card did not work. but today I found new driver on globalsat site and everything is working, now I am really happy with x51v, even my old mapopolis is working without any additional upgrade.

I am using IpaqNav System and Garmin GPS10 with X51V. Two Gps programs I used for my Ipaq4150(WM2003) and X50V(se). I don't seem to have any compatibility issues with WM5. IpaqNav has faster re-routing feature but GPS10 has more superior POI database and has more features and functionality. Mapopolis is nice too but the voice is a little bit crappy.

Thanks for the info. After 5 1/2 hours on the phone, I have decided to return the Navteq and look into a compact flash solution.

I can't thank you enough for all of your suggestions.:)
