If I have the default - fastest route set, I sometimes get some bizarre routes. Even stranger if I switch to shortest route (distance) the actual estimated time drops e.g. from 35 minutes to 20 minutes.
As far I can tell it is only possible to select one of: fastest, shortest, main roads, local roads
It is not possible for example to select fastest and main roads together
When using on roads I know, sometimes I want to use shortest and other times fastest or main roads give a better result.
It would be good to be able to switch easily between the two while driving. Is there an easy way to do this without having to use the stylus
Not too sure about that I will have to check mine. I have used "local roads" a few times when I wanted to stay away from motorways but don't remember if I checked "fastest" or "shortest" as well.
I've got a great accessory for operating it on the road. Called a wife.
On my system I can just select one of the four options mentioned - not a mix.
But I've never experienced the strange behavior noted in post #1 - just occasionally some strange deroutes looking like a road repair, that are no longer valid but still recorded.
Had a look at mine and you're right, it is only one of the four options. Sorry for the confusion.
You might find that it is just that particular route that is causing problems. I occasionally find the thing goes a bit wierd (technical term) but overall I am quite satisfied.
Unfortunately I've lost my GPS receiver but I do still use the route and map facility when on 'unknown territory' :approve:

Didn't realise you could do that but thinking about it I can't see why not. Bummer about your receiver, you lose a lot of functionality.
Been to Denmark, lovely country, very clean and nice people. Your Princess is a fellow countryman (countrywoman?).
So which one does everyone use? Or do you switch between them?
From the manual:
Quote:
Route Preference:
Fastest calculates routes based on time.
Shortest calculates routes based on distance.
Main Roads calculates routes using major roads.
Local Roads calculates routes with local roads.
