I personally like TomTom's interface WAY better than iG3's. Also like the features TomTom offers. Only if it had 2006 Navteq maps.. sigh. And about iG 3, this review is a good one, http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/iguidance3.php

I'm looking forward to reading JakeRich's review! ;-)

Hmm, pretty fair and decent review there - presents both positives and negatives in equal lighting.
I decided to re-evaluate TomTom more fully and compare that to iG3, and I have to admit the main GUI for TomTom is better than iG3 - especially its smoother zooming and faster panning, and smoother map display while driving. I like how TomTom will automatically rearrange the street names and change the font size on the display to make them easier to read. With iG you can use theme.ini to change the font size for each zoom level, but it doesn't seem to do any automatic rearranging of the placement of the street names.
I still don't like TomTom's menu system because you can only have 5 items on one screen (5 plus one for the arrow to go to the next page) - and they're a bit blurred since they're not VGA-aware. It is good for people with big big fingers, but it makes it a pain to drill through so many menus to get to what you want to do. TomTom definitely has more routing options (avoid, detour, via, etc) - but TomTom takes at least 3-5x longer to calculate a route compared to iG. And as already mentioned, TomTom has a ridiculously long load-up time (45 secs) compared to iG's 10 secs.
TomTom has customizable/importable POIs so that's a huge plus, but I wish they had categorized their restaurants into types of food like iG - all it does is display the closest restaurants by distance - definitely not too useful that way. And iG's POI display with the directional arrow pointing towards where the POI is relative to your current position is a huge plus. If I'm looking for a gas station, I certainly don't want to make a U-Turn if there's one that's equidistant further down my route.
TomTom has a nice feature where it'll turn the Bluetooth on/off automatically (iG does this too but not under WM5). BUT if you're only browsing the maps without your GPS on, even if you turn the bluetooth off manually, Tomtom will re-enable it again - battery drain. TomTom has a Disable Bluetooth option, but it didn't seem to work for me.
The map of California for TomTom takes 66mb (ver 567 maps) while iGuidance 3 takes 157mb. I'm not sure if this means TomTom has better compression or if iG has more road data/POI's. TomTom takes about 5mb RAM while iG takes about 2mb.
err.. 45 secs to load TomTom? Mine (5.21) takes only about ~12 secs to load (Canada map 567). Maybe for VGA devices it takes longer but never heard anything close to 45 secs!
I've been using both TomTom and iG for some time now and I gotta say once you get the feel of it, you'll like TomTom menu better; especially while driving.

Yep, timed it several times. TomTom program installed to main memory with maps on my Ultra II SD card. I've seen the same slow load-up time on a freshly hard-reset x51v also.
That function was added to a bunch of navigation software because there was a time when on a highway, the program would tell you to get off only to route you back on again at the next entrance. Keeping the reduced turns box checked would prevent this from happening. I've never had this problem. I'm using IG 2.1.3. I aslo never had the "right" turn and "left" turn problem.
Going to the Bronx Zoo.
I've seen this happen when I'm close to the zoo on I95 N. IG would tell you to exit a few exits before. I did it once and was routed to another parking lot section. Its a big Zoo.
Loading Maps:
Same here. IG wants the memory card in the axim and using activesync. If you load maps to a memory card and trafer the card to your Axim, IG wont read it. I think its because the maps you load on the computer is formated for the desktop/laptop version and not for PPC.
Note: I have the entire east coast on my 144x SD card and have not noticed any slow down. Last summer I did routeing from New York all the way to Florida without any problems or slowdowns.
Volume.
I pair my bluetooth headsets to my axim and hear the IG warming turn tones just fine. Too bad I can't pair the phone and Axim at the same time to my heaset.
IG worked just fine for me to use a card reader to setup the maps. I've had no problems reading from my cards that I've loaded that way. I also seem to remember loading maps to the C: drive and then copying them to the card and being ok, too, but it's a dim memory. In any event, if you get the files in the right place IG can work with them. But the location is apparently hard coded into the software, so you have to be careful not to change the names of the files or folders.
No problems here creating maps on my hard drive and then copying them over to my SD card manually. They need to go under \SD Card\iNav iGuidance\Maps or \CF Card\iNav iGuidance\Maps.
FYI, maps of all states west of Mississippi=774 mb, east of Mississippi=1270mb, Alaska=23mb, Hawaii=6mb, and all of Canada=201mb.
Only problem Ive been having with iG3 is somtimes the voice gets really really slow.. Make........Left........Turn.......... Notice that it slows down when activesync is running in the background. Which sucks for me because I use it to d/l my work email while i'm on the road via my bt cell phone
never fails. Everytime I turn on Aximsite I learn something new. I have x51v and Ig3 and holux236. I do not hear very well, but I can not tell if IG3 is say left or right. I got the seido g4500s and that does not help the "right/left" problem but it is a nice car kit. I took the tip here and set my properties to "normal Turn" and will test it. I also have the IQUE M5 garmin version 6 for about a year and the color scheme is better. I get alot of glare on the axim. But I do love the axim and feel that I am to use to the garmin and need to work with IG3 more.
