Just curious........Do most of you have more then one GPS software package? for the ones who do, which do you have? is it for back-up or because of the strengths of the software?
Only problem Ive been having with iG3 is somtimes the voice gets really really slow.. Make........Left........Turn.......... Notice that it slows down when activesync is running in the background. Which sucks for me because I use it to d/l my work email while i'm on the road via my bt cell phone
Make sure that its not installed to the Main Memory, or whatever you call it. If possible, install to card.
For example, I have iG installed to SD Card, while maps to CF Card. This way, its faster.

Maybe it would make sense to have "reduced turns" enabled for highway driving and disabled for non-highway.

That function was added to a bunch of navigation software because there was a time when on a highway, the program would tell you to get off only to route you back on again at the next entrance. Keeping the reduced turns box checked would prevent this from happening. I've never had this problem. I'm using IG 2.1.3. I aslo never had the "right" turn and "left" turn problem.
Going to the Bronx Zoo.
I've seen this happen when I'm close to the zoo on I95 N. IG would tell you to exit a few exits before. I did it once and was routed to another parking lot section. Its a big Zoo.
Loading Maps:
Same here. IG wants the memory card in the axim and using activesync. If you load maps to a memory card and trafer the card to your Axim, IG wont read it. I think its because the maps you load on the computer is formated for the desktop/laptop version and not for PPC.
Note: I have the entire east coast on my 144x SD card and have not noticed any slow down. Last summer I did routeing from New York all the way to Florida without any problems or slowdowns.
Volume.
I pair my bluetooth headsets to my axim and hear the IG warming turn tones just fine. Too bad I can't pair the phone and Axim at the same time to my heaset.
I finally got to the bottom of this. iG tells me to make the non-existant right turn when I have the "reduced turns" option enabled. When using "normal turns" it routes correctly. I have no clue why one would need a "reduced turns" option. I have been going through my whole life making "normal turns". Go figure!!!
Have you reported your problem to iNav? If not, you should!

I've purchased IG2.1.3 and TT5.21 as w2ell as tried OCN4 and Mapopolis. I was a user of TT back to V2 days and bought IG when TT's old maps kept biting me in the a**. IG's maps are far better/newer as are the address look up features. TT has the better interface and POI database. I would upgrade to IG3 without question if it weren't for one "feature" that's missing. All the other nav programs use predictive routing, making up for the satellite communication lag except for the navteq based systems like IG and Dell. This leads to the software loosing track of which way I'm travelling at every stop sign and traffic light. The constant recalculations and false directions when stopped ticks me off, TT doesn't do this, nor did OCN4 or Mapopolis. I'm waiting for TT6 to appear before I decide which I will pay to upgrade. If TT has a major upgrade of their maps, they'll get my $$, if not then it's iNav and I'll live with the re routes.

If TomTom 6 would include some features I consider vital, then maybe....
-TT6 needs to be able to give better voice guidance. I love the way iG gives voice guidance - no need to look at the screen. With TT, it never tells you the highway number or even if it's the south/north east/west exit. You definitely have to look at the screen since freeway exits can be very close distance-wise so it's hard to know which one the program wants you to take sometimes (difference between east and west could be only 50 yds, and that's not easy to differentiate while driving sometimes).
-The street name of the next turn needs to be a lot bigger - especially in light of the fact that it doesn't voice the highway numbers - you definitely have to look at the screen - and the text currently is so small it's difficult to do so safely! And I HATE the fact that some exits/street names are given only as the Exit number and not the actual name of the road. It's a lot harder to read the exit # on the sign than the actual name of the road.
-You should be able to optionally maintain a certain zoom level, and be able to pan/browse a map while navigating as well. The automatic zooming based on distance to a turn is nice, but it needs to be optional.
-Better maps!! It's pathetic that TT 5.21 doesn't realize that a major road has a center divider (very, very old road btw) - it wants you to make a left while there's a center median. Even iG 2.13 knew to have you turn right and then make a U-turn.
-Restaurant POI's need to be sub-divided into types of food.
-Gotta have the program start up faster and route faster. iGuidance has more accurate maps and routes faster.
Some pluses for TT compared to iG: The menus can be easier and more intuitive to use if you customize it. I like that TT will recognize that you're off the road and attempt to guide you back towards the road. iG just states that you are *Off Road* and only try to route you once you're back on the road. When you're in an unfamiliar area, it's nice to know to make a left or right onto a road when you're exiting a business, etc. so you don't waste time making a U-turn later.
And of course the smoother mapping/browsing/zooming/guiding is nice, as well as the customizable POI's.

They did fix it, in iGuidance 2.1.3.2. I upgraded a while ago and I noticed it doesn't do that spinning map thing when stopped anymore. So iGuidance v3 should have it too. Basically I think that when it detects your going less then 1 mph it'll stop changing directions. Regardless they fixed it in the new release. Its faster then 2.1.3 too. Worth patching. I'm wanting to get v3.
I went to another state one day and IG3 told me to exit the highway 7 miles before the destination and take local roads. That was crazy!!.
If I took the next exit I would have arrived much earlier. That just seem very bad routing.
Also this is the first time I am using IG3, the 3d map doesn't seem to be smooth. It's like 1 frame a second. Is that the way is supposed to be?? TT is so smooth.
Is there a way to speed it up?
IG3 GUI is just sad...but they have excellent maps.

1 frame per second is the GPS update rate, so that's the refresh rate on the display. No way to speed it up. TT fakes it by estimating where you might be between fixes and updates the display assuming you haven't changed path. That's a reasonable assumption at high speed, doesn't work so well as you slow down to turn.
I have been using for about a week, and yes the new maps are great as well as POI. I love the new look as well, everything to me seems more crisp.....with that said, i just cant trust its route calculations. It does really stupid routes for me, never had that problem with 2.1.3. I have to constantly change route options ie: quickest/shortest/major...to get correct routes....very frustrating. Im lucky that most of the places I travel I am familiar with, but Im leaving on a trip to east coast where i am completely unfamiliar....I am defininely going to Mapquest/Streets and trips my itenerary prior...I JUST DONT TRUST IG3

What's the point of using a GPS program if you already know the best way there?
Yes, you should never completely trust any software - it's a tool, not a brain replacement as I like to say.
But if the software gets you to your destination in a foreign city, it has done it's job hasn't it? Even if it takes you on a less-than optimal route, at least it got you there. And that, in my book, has paid for the price of the program when I don't have to get lost, frustrated and distracted (and possibly into an accident or worse).
If you don't trust iG3, then by all means switch to another program that you can trust. But good luck finding the perfect program.
BTW I don't see any of the drifting in iG3 that I did in 2.1.3NA, so I guess they must've fixed that.
I have iG3 and love it. On a recent trip, it was perfect. Once while testing in town, it told me to turn because there was a slight bend in the road (not noticeable in real life, only on the map). I don't mind the 1 second refresh rate... because... get this... I'm driving and looking... at the road (I know, crazy thought).
