I received my iGv3/cf-337 bundle last Tuesday from BuyGPSNow.com. I have nothing but good things to say about this retailer. They promptly replied to all my emails and delivered the product when promised.
So far I am very impressed with the software, apart from a couple of issues. My laptop has a built in card reader so I tried to use it to transfer the maps onto my SD card. Each time I did so, iGuidance would report that the map data was either corrupted or missing. The only way I got it to work was to put the SD card back in the Axim and install the maps ever-so slowly through ActiveSync.
I have been testing iGuidance for a couple of days and every once in awhile the voice prompt will tell me to turn right when it is a left turn that I need to make. The onscreen map shows the correct turn. Fortunately this has only happened in my local area where I know which way to go. I would hate this to happen when I am in unfamiliar territory and take me on a wild goose chase. Has this happened to anyone else???? Maybe I am expecting too much of the program and the odd hiccup is inevitable.
I would prefer the voice to be louder because it can be hard to hear over road noise and CD player, but this is a hardware deficiency. I plan on buying a Seidio powered mount with built-in speaker, so hopefully this will solve that problem.
Other than that, I am very pleased with the software. It is definitely one of those "killer apps" that we bought our Axim's for.
I had a problem with the MapLoader application sporadically erroring when trying to install the maps onto a CF card in a SanDisk USB 2.0 card reader. I finally stuck the CF card into a PCMCIA adapter and popped it into my laptop. Problem solved.
I think this has happened to me. When I was up in Columbus, OH (2 hours away) it told me to "Veer Left" and as I looked at the map, I shoulda Veered right. It took me through a little detour of the city, but quickly recalculates a new route and regardless will get you to your destination.
I've not seen any left/right issues, and I was able to load my maps to a CF card using a reader on my desktop PC. The map issue must be something specific to your setup. I'll look for the l/r issue more carefully--I tend to hear the prompt and look at the screen, then follow the screen directions. The voice is like an alarm to say "look at me."
The L, R and W sounds very close. Tongue and lip position and even to some extent the thoat sound make it hard to discern the difference.
I myself, hear Mapopolis and IGv2.1.3 (version I have) incorrectlyfrom time to time when it "pronounces" Left (lĕft) or Right (rīt). It makes me wish, they would allow for a switch to Port (pôrt, pōrt) and Starboard (stär'bərd) instead. Or Left and "Your Other Left!".
I tried the same route again and sure enough, the voice is saying turn right which would put me in someones driveway, when I should be turning left. Also the arrow in the box points right, even though the route on the map shows a left turn.
I am going to toggle the route options (shortest/quickest) and see if any changes make a difference.
Nope - no difference. There is this one location where iG gets totally confused. We decided to follow the directions and see where it led us. After a few moments it requested that we find the nearest road, even though we were on a road. So far, this is the only bug I have come across. I have no clue if it is a problem with the core application or the maps.
I want to try and go to the Bronx Zoo again in NY, Iguidance was going Nuts, Every exit it was telling me to get off only to get back on again, I found out the hard way when I got off and got stuck in traffic.
I had to pull the Route list up so I would know when I REALLY needed to exit off 95 S.
I finally got to the bottom of this. iG tells me to make the non-existant right turn when I have the "reduced turns" option enabled. When using "normal turns" it routes correctly. I have no clue why one would need a "reduced turns" option. I have been going through my whole life making "normal turns". Go figure!!!

I noted that too and also turned that off as well.
I have been trying IG3 for a few days now and I just can't seem to like it. TomTom has the best User interface for a PocketPC Gps. The maps are old, but IG interface just suck.
