Powering BT GPS
OK, I have the Axim X51v, a Solar BT GPS receiver, and TomTom 5. I also have an Arkon powered cradle, which says that it provides 5v at 2a. It has a RJ-45(?) type plug into which a cord plugs to provide power into the GPS via a mini-USB connector. This is great and works perfectly, it's one of the reasons I bought the Axim.
But now we come to the other reason. I'm a glider pilot. I have the Axim, I have the GPS, I have glider software, I have a big suction cup mount which holds the Axim quite nicely, and I have a Socket Mobile Power Pack, which seems like it will power the Axim for longer than I need it. But I have no way to power the GPS. Does anybody make something which will "siamese" the output of the Socket battery into two USB port outlets? Or, failing that, if I had a spec for the cable between the power pack and the Axim (the originally supplied Axim cable), I could perform cable surgery and parallel the GPS receiver with the Axim, and let the Socket battery power them both. I'm pretty sure that the current draw of the GPS is next to negligible. I'd probably make it so that there was an RJ socket on the cord into which the existing GPS power cord could plug.
Does any of this stuff exist, or do I have to make one myself? Anybody else done something like this?
Thanks in advance,
Ed
