This is from my experience with iGuidance 2.1.3 but version 3 should be the same.

You can set a start point and end point and iGuidance will provide a route plan. The start/end points can be picked by picking a point on the map itself or by entering in an address/intersection or a POI from iGuidance's database of restaurants, malls, gas stations, etc. You can view this route plan/itinerary as worded instructions or you can see the route graphically on the map.

The itinerary is similar to what you will find on the on-line mapping sites with instructions as to which road to turn on, in which direction, and how long to travel down the road until the next turn.

To do this in iGuidance, first choose a start point by going into Destination and entering in the City, Street, Number of the address. Then choose to Map that address. Then go back into Destination and choose your destination point. Then choose to Navigate to that point. It will then show you a map with the route outlined. You can switch to the itinerary screen using the D-Pad.

This might be a little off topic, but I thought I read somewhere that with iGuidance you can put some non-contiguous state maps on your card and iGuidance will build in the highways between the two states to allow you use the s/w for interstate travel.

Can someone confirm this? If so, how well does it work?

I was thinking that if I purchased this s/w, I would put in the four corner states and maybe a central state like Kansas or Colorado to build the interstate network. I primarily use California but would like the option to travel using an interstate network.

The answer is no. It will allow for major roads just over state borders, but not inter-state routes. iGuidance V2.1.3

It used to be able to do that in version 1 - basically created a corridor of the major roads between two non-continuous states when you created your maps. But they removed that feature in version 2.

For version 3, it looks like they didn't put that feature back (from iGuidance website): "User needs to load maps for all states passing through. Total route distance capability will be limited to SD/CF card memory capacity."

With SD/CF cards so large and cheap these days, they probably figured people wouldn't have problems installing most of the states on one card.
