tomtom software not recognizing receiver

Hi All,

Well I finally received my iTrek receiver and car adaptor (http://www.semsons.com/im3btgpsrewi.html) from Semsons the other week (great service by the way) - plugged everything into the cigarette lighter, cradle light came on, so I fired up the Axim x50v and loaded the GPS Recevier software that came with the iTrek receiver (BR-355 ps2) - punched in 4800 baud and com1 and it happily found about 8 satellites. Next I went to the TomTom software and tried to add the new receiver - no luck?! Please help!

Only one application at a time can use GPS. Did you shut down the GPS utility completely before starting TomTom? Not just tap the X in the upper right corner, really, really kill the application.

I'm pretty sure I did (went to application switcher - and shutdown the program) - maybe this method is not the right way? what other ways are there to shutdown applications?

Soft reset is one. Start\settings\system\memory\Running programs is another. Application switcher should have done the trick, though.

TomTom users, can anyone help?

TomTom menu > Exit Application

Make sure you've exited the GPS Receiver software before launching TomTom. On the main screen upon loading up TomTom, tap the right lower corner where the GPS signal strength bars are. That should get you into the Route view. Next tap the vertical bar on the right to bring up the GPS Status. You can of course do this through the menu system as well.

Once you're in the GPS Status, tap Configure. Select Other NMEA GPS, and then select the baud rate, and then the COM port. The COM 1 option display is messed up on my screen. It shows as "Se???a?? ?a??d?? st?? COM 1:"

I don't use a serial GPS. But see this post: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=126247
