HELP! TomTom Navigator USA: setup MFC Application has encountered a problem and ne...

I pop CD1 in, type in the cd key, agree to the license agreement, and click "Install TomTom software" (or install maps, etc) and it crashes and says "setup MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I called TomTom and they can't explain it. I've tried it on 3 PCs, each using the latest version of Activesync. T_T

HELP!

During the installation (before you exit the setup after it gives the error), see if the setup program places any of the TomTom CAB files anywhere - check under "Program Files\Microsft Activesync" or maybe another folder under Programs Files, or check out the Temp folder under "\Documents and Settings\(User)\Local Settings\Temp".

If you can find the CAB files, you can then copy these directly over to your PPC and install it from there.

As a general rule with installing programs to the PPC, if you run into problems, disable any unnecessary programs, especially firewalls - and soft-reset the PPC before installing anything new (and make backups beforehand as well).

I have the cab files but they arent installing right. I have the app CAB file, the GPS connector CAB file, the WV maps CAB file and the english voice CAB file. I start it up and it says no maps are installed. I called Tomtom and they were like "uhhh... I dunno"

So you installed all the CAB files without problems? If so, then after that, make sure there's a file called CurrentMap.dat under a folder \My Documents\TomTom

The CurrentMap.dat could be a zero byte file and it should still work as long as the maps are the correct ones for that version of TomTom. Just create a text file without anything in it, and then save it as CurrentMap.dat.

yeah I just figured out that apparently TomTom Navigator USA software is not compatible with Windows Mobile 5, so I "found" a copy of Navigator 5 and the Windows Mobile 5 patch and now it's working (it can connect to the bluetooth GPS no problem)
