error messages - names.bin

The Dell GPS navigator program works fine on my AXIM 50 and a 1gig CF card, but street names aren't loading. I get an error message "invalid or missing data file: names.bin" when I first start the program. The highways and freeways are labeled, but no street names. I've reloaded the map for my main traveling areas in California and Nevada a couple of times, but that didn't help.
BTW, I did have the street names loaded once, but when I tried to overwrite the map with a larger one, the names didn't load.

any ideas?

What, no answers? I'm disappointed.

Turns out the names.bin file will appear when maps are loaded by city, but not by region. I wonder if the names.bin fil is too cumbersome.

I would guess no answers because no one else had the problem so no one could help. I don't have the Dell version, but the iGuidance version did create names.bin when I loaded a region.

I am having the same problem with names.bin, et. al. Though I haven't tested this solution yet, I believe it has something to do with the amount of Main memory available. I have one Axim with most of it's main memory free and the maps load fine. On the second Axim there is only a few MBs of main memory left and it's the one having trouble. In both cases I'm specifying a storage card as the installation folder, but the GPS map loader must use the main memory as a temp buffer. I'm hoping to test this theory tonight by cleaning off the second Axim completely and reloading the map software. If it works, I'll post back here.

dell gps navigation system error names.bin

Sure enough, performing a hard reset to clear out the main memory did the trick. I was able to load about 400MB of map data afterwards without incident.
