Aximsitemobileicon iG3 doesnt play well with MCE?

I thought I had finally decided on iGuidance 3 as my new gps program....BUT according to thier website, its not compatible with Media Center.

Quote:
# Compatible Operating Systems:

* PC version: Windows ME/NT/2000/XP (not compatible w/ Windows MCE)
* PPC version: Windows Mobile 2003/2003SE, WM5.0
My second choice would be OCN 5, BUT I do like the idea of having a PC version as well.

Now Media Center is just XP Pro with some added options, from what Ive been able to find. It loads just like XP should, too, you have to call up the Media Center part of it. (Take it easy on me...Im nowheres near as comp-savvy as you all seem to be! :approve: )

So I guess my question is....Does anyone know of a work-around of some sort?

I do have a new copy of XP Pro I was going to use on my "new build" that hasnt happened yet... can I put that OS on my Comp along with MCE? Or is that just plain stupid for just one program I want?

TIA!!!

I have a Toshiba Qosmio laptop that came with media center installed and I have no problem running iguidance v3. I have a bluetooth dongle and it pairs up and shows my location. As far as I can tell it is compatible with MC. I use my x51v when I am traveling and have not taken the laptop on a trip yet using IG3.

rcab...No kiddin'! Good to know! :approve: Has anyone else had similar luck? The software, of course, is not returnable, so I'd like to be sure before I buy. Ive also been thinking about that Wintec 4-in1 recently reviewed here. But I hate to stray away from the awesome Surf III system....

Unless things have changed, you can only get MCE pre-installed on systems, you can't build a system and use MCE.

I have MCE and I will be installing iG3 soon....but I don't run iG3 on my PC, so I don't know if I can help you.

I suspect they simply haven't tested it on MCE, and are covering their you-know-whats. It's a lot easier (read: cheaper) to say something isn't supported rather than to thoroughly test it, and MCE probably doesn't have a huge user-base yet so doesn't warrant the effort.

You can easily build your own Media Center PCs (it doesn't have to be pre-installed).

Although I don't know the answer to this question; if it were a few days ago I could had tried it out myself, but I went with an installation of XP Pro instead of MCE 2005 this time.

Actually, MCE *is* XP Pro, just with some extra stuff on top. Cheaper to buy MCE and not use the Media feature than to buy Pro:)

Just an update... iGuidance 3 works great with Windows Media Center (Of course, I dont "run" the MC part....) and also on my X50V. Thats with the BT Wintec gps (WT100) No issues whatsoever... unless having to manually pair the gps everytime I run it. Just a matter of 3 button pushes tho. I havent done the newest update (3.1) yet though....

Thanks to all for the useful info... on everything else, as well!

Now, if the Big Brown Truck ever gets here today, Ill have to see how it all works on my new X51V! I think that'll be a while tho, with bluetooth coms and Wid stacks and all to read thru here to get the 51 running up to par I believe. :rolling:
