Well, this might be a silly question but I'm going to ask anyway...
What are GPS receivers useful for besides driving directions and geocaching?
I know some newer cameras have GPS features for geo-tagging photos, but is there anything else the Bluetooth GPS receiver I just ordered for my Axim could be used for?

They are great for hiking though I tend to use a stand alone unit for that. They can also be used to find your car again in a huge parking lot (though not a parking garage) or where ever you parked when you went hiking.
I am an Aussie living in Shinjuku, Japan. I use Mapple V7 with a bluetooth gps and my trusty x51v. Without it I couldn't navigate to locations I need too. Even asking locals, in Japanese, you cannot find many places. Also my biological north and south compass is still totally messed up so even a simple compass program is invaluable to me.
Anybody who looks at a map on a regular basis may have a use for GPS.
Several outdoor professions use it: wildlife biologists, utility, civil engineers, foresters, law enforcement and geographers are just a few.
Recreation use include hunting, fishing and hiking.
One other option though I rarely see PPC programs for this is...sailing. GPS is invaluable onboard boats, though a lot of sailors buy standalone units for this instead.
Any purpose where you may have need of a map or to mark the location of something...GPS is best. The purposes for that could be huge...and diverse...
You could have billboard ads that come up in map software...Shop at 49.121N 135.22W you could keep track of mobile events or items...Your child is located at 123.66N 22W. Its up to you to find out what you'd like to do with it...

Other day I saw a utility worker with a pda marking all the utility poles on the street I was walking down. I asked him what he was doing. He was surveying all the utility poles. He had a a survey form for each pole and would enter the type and condition of the pole with check boxes on the PDA and the GPS would automatically locate the geographic position of the pole for the utility company database. That way they could pull up maps of all the poles in the city by type and condition in their offices and plan their replacement and maitenance strategy.
When I was working on crab fishing boats in the Bering Sea we'd use GPS chartplotters to mark the position of every crab pot that we set so we could find them again. Obviously mariners completely depend on GPS these days.
I take it canoeing. I have an Aquapac that my BT GPS, X50v and a battery extender all fit in. I also take it on hikes again in the Aquapac in case of rain and it also keeps the dust out. I always mark the position of the car before leaving it. If I need to get back to the car in a hurry, I know exactly where it is with or without a map. I use Memory-Map Navigator for non-street navigation. The maps are pretty good. They let me explore new places on the rivers in the National Scenic Waterways I visit several times a year, because my mom lives surrounded by the Current and Jack Forks rivers.
