We are using the Axim x50v in combination with the NavTeq software, Dell GPS adapter and windshield suction cup mount (with a long flexible arm). Recently when traveling the bumpy freeway through the Chicago area several of the bumps caused the GPS software to drop and disappear. The unit went back to the Today screen. Of course we could start it up again and it would relocate our current position as well as the track it was on but what could be causing this type of disruption? I didn't think there was anything in the Axim that was "shock" sensitive.
Does anyone else have this problem and can it be resolved or managed?
It might be a coincidence. I'm not sure what's happening to your unit but the Software shutting down might be due to lack of memory. Check if you have sufficient memory to run the application. Navigation softwares tend to be memory hungry.
Did you install to a card or main memory. If it was a card perhaps there is a bad contact there. Also can you replicate the fault when stationary i.e. shaking, bumping etc.

The maps are all installed on a 1GB SD card. I'll check to be sure the card is secure however, the software itself was installed to the main storage so I'm confused why the entire application would shut down when bumped or shaken.
As to the memory response above, again I will check to see if there are a lot of apps open when this happens. However, if it is a memory issue wouldn't this happen even when teh unit was sitting still?

I use the Dell GPS software with the Dell GPS reciever, personally. Similar to you, I installed the maps on a 2GB SD card and the program on the main disk. Up here in WI, we have some pretty bumpy roads up north and I personally haven't had a problem with it when going over them. However, I have had some cases when I have had to many apps open and one or the other programs shuts down. So, it could be either. But if you are going over really bumpy roads, I would check the connector first.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll check everything quoted in this thread and see if I can pin it down. I did go into the running programs list and shut down several. None were that big (Notes, Contacts, etc.). I think I'll take it for another spin (up here in Northern, MN) on some of our bumpier roads and play with all the suggestions to see what gives.

Thanks again everyone.
FYI, I always shut down all of the programs that I am not using, especially when I am using the GPS. Even if it is something as small as Notes or Contacts. Of course, I am old fashioned and still print out directions, in addition to using the GPS for long trips, so I have two sets of directions.
