Air Vent Mount

Does anyone know of an air vent mount that would fit the rounded type of vents of a Renault Laguna? I have tried almost eveywhere without any luck. I'm not really looking for a powered mount but if that is the only option then so be it.

Thanks.

I tried some vent mounts without any luck also, and went to a windsheild mount that works well for me.

Did you try http://gomadic.com/ ?

One thing to keep in mind with vent mounts is that some vents won't hold a heavy PDA very well. After I purchased mine, I realized my vents won't work very well. Every time I tried, the PDA ended up pointing down at a nearly-unreadable angle. Luckily, Gomadic was kinda enough to send a windshield mount to me as a replacement.

Do you have a problem with a normal suction windscreen mount. I have used one for over a year and it is fine.

in rectangular openings, like Ford Taurus, I just insert the cover/lid of the magnesium case into the space between the vent and the top vent opening.

Slides right in

Thanks for your replies folks.

I don't really have much against a windscreen mount but I am fearful that it won't hold. (Old) Renaults dont have a great heating system and I have to wait for ages until the windscreen is dry. Then it vibrates quite a bit during the journey. Maybe I'm just being too cautious.

I phoned Renault for advice but they were, surprise surprise, non-commital and wouldn't say if they knew of any that would fit.

I think that, short of permenantly fixing something to the dashboard, I will have to stick with the windscreen mount.

Ho hum...

Why is the round vent a problem?

Are you having a problem because all of the vent louvers are round?

If so look at this thread to see a very inexpensive mount that has rotating clips on the back.

I modded mine to pad the Axim and adjust it's viewing angle. I posted pics in the thread, and one is a close-up of the clips themselves.

Each clip can rotate 360 degrees, and the spacing between the clips is adjustable. I'll bet you could get them set so that it would work for you.

No such luck I'm afraid MaxD.

The vents are square but slope inwards from bottom to top so standard vent mounts don't work.

That's French cars for you! Oh and it burst a brake cylinder today.:realmad:

Exclamation Not Good!

Hope the burst brake cylinder didn't cause an accident!

That can be expensive to fix on some cars.

Hope you are OK and that you get it fixed quickly and easily.

Stay safe !:approve:

Thankfully the brake shoes & drums were still in perfect working order, albeit soaked in brake fluid. £60GBP ($120USD) later all is fine again but still no air vent mount!

I wonder if Mrs. K would let me trade in the car for one with regular vents.? Only joking. Ouch!

Try looking at a 'Brodit' clip and holder.
Just received mine through PDAHUT.com

You need to specify the two parts, one for the pda the other specific to your car (various fixing positions for each car).
The clip fixes into 'joints' in the dash. Mine fits between 2 of the vents.

Very Solid, and I would deffinately reccomend.

I went the Brodit route for my Peugeot and Axim - You choose the exact unit for your car and they are basically designed to fit that particular model.
I got the holder with the built-in cigarette chrager for the actual Axim, the other part of the clip fits between parts of the trim and is extremely solid.
