GPS software where you can tell it which route to take?

Hi, is there any GPS software out there that you can tell it which routing you want to take to the destination as opposed to the software giving you a route to take?

With Destinator you can go through the route and eliminate the turns/roads you don't want to take and it will re-route you. Sometimes this can be a tedius process......but it does work.

Most software allows you to put in Waypoints, by putting them in the right place you can get the route you want.

This seems to be a trade-off between easy user interface and comprehensive features. Lots of things that were in early versions of TomTom Navigator (for example) are now missing in the quest for simplicity because the vast majority of users don't need them.

iGuidance allows you to select whether you want the route to be:

Quickest (shortest estimated time),
Major (weights travel to major roads),
Shortest (shortest overal distance),
Local (weights travel to local roads)

You can also, once there is a route, tell it to avoid certain roads.

You can also setup an intinerary with multiple destinations.

Thanks for the replies folks. Currently I just have what Dell supplied for software with their BT GPS. It is ok and does the job.

I currently drive alot between two cities and know the route. It would be nice having the GPS to tell how far to go as opposed to barking at me every few seconds to turn.

I will look at the Dell software and see if there is a way of building waypoints.

Mapopolis has a nice option called "Route through" which automatically changes a defined route to the road(s) you select. The new route can then be saved permanently.

It's a nice option...sounds like what you want to do

Yes, I know, but the software and maps are still available today and work great.

The latest app program (4.8) is very mature and quite stable. While the maps may no longer be supported in the future, they are certainly accurate and usable now and the foreseable (sp?) future.

(I plan on continuing using this app for quite some time)
