X51V and TomTom Blue Tooth problems
Hello All,
I have just got a hold of TomTom Navigator 6 and their own GPS Bluetooth receiver for an Axim X51V running WM5.
However, I am having loads of problems with connectivity - Tomtom does not seem to recognise that a GPS is present, and keeps saying "No GPS" or "Waiting for a valid GPS signal". It is absolutely infuriating, I do not know where to start getting the two connecting.
The TomTom guidance leaflet has idiot pictures which simply indicate that you turn the GPS reciever on and it connects as if by magic, well there is NO magic.
It has connected twice - in both cases, I had got bored and walked off from the pda and GPS, forgetting to turn em off, and after a 15 minute break, I come back to see the PDA screen displaying my current position. I turn it off and turn it on again, to find the two mooks dont know each other and TT gives me the same story of no GPS/waiting to valid GPS signal.
I gave a call to TT support, and asked them, and the tech asked, if I had "bonded" the GPS with the pda, it did cross my mind to tell him that the manuals did not talk of this, but before I could give him more info, the line was cut off.
Any ideas at all??! What a waste of space this pda lark is.

Run Tom Tom, go into Change Preferences, go to screen 3, bottom left Shoiw GPS status, Configure, select select relevant receiver, I guess for you it's TomTom, continue, try Com 7, if this doesn't work try Com 8 should get afix in two minutes or so

Hi Laurie. I tried your suggestion and the problem is that my axim x51v will not allow me to choose com7 or com8 for my garmin GPS10 bluetooth reciever.
Funny thing is that everything was working great with TomTom and my original GPS10 reciever. When it crapped out Garmin replaced it with a new unit. Now the Axim will not allow me to use com7 or com8.

Make sure nothing else is trying to use the GPS data stream. Also, while I don't have a WM5 device, I'm told that there is a utility with WM5 that offers to manage your GPS for you. From reports, a lot of folks have problems with that utility and have turned it off by unchecking it on whatever menu it appears.
Finally, you can try some of the utilities (GPSInfo, visualGPSce, etc) to let them "find" the gps for you, then note where they found it and tell TT to use that same port. TT isn't very bright at finding the GPS.

Thanks for all your help and info.
I seem to have the system working now...(NOTE: I did not say I GOT the system working). I am not sure exactly what I did, but I went into connections, removed all ports, and then set a port of the GPS system it had found, to COM8. I typed in the passcode as 0000 (4 Zeros). Turned it off, went for a walk, came back, turned GPS on, waited and turned Axim on, TTN on, left it in the back yard, had a tea, came out, and TTN had got a signal from 3 satellites and told me we were in my backyard (I am sure that will be useful when Alzheimers pays a visit).
If the above seems confusing, it is EXACTLY how I felt dealing with this, and it is exactly how I feel, using the $%^&!* Axim. IT seems to get more and more irrational, and this is from an ex IT helpdesk gopher. There is no base theory of connectivity or Windows architecture I can look to, to make a learned opinion. I am not sure exactly what I did to help the connection, it might even be dependant on how long or how far I went ofr a walk or how many sugars I took in my tea.
Thanks again guys, I am returning to my bunker, with my AK47, an years worth of C Rations and water purification tabs, call me when it is all over - use pen and paper to avoid getting shot at. and NO FAST MOVEMENTS!

keep at it, BT link-up and acquiring satellites will become second nature after awhile especially if you make it out of your bunker.
