Worried Route 66

I have been looking at Route 66 for gps receivers and mapping software. Is anyone familiar with Route 66? I wonder how the tiny little receiver compares to the Holux slim 240. I also wonder how the US and Europe mapping software compares to iGuidance 3 and TomTom 6.

thanks for your feedback

You may want to re-phrase the second part of the question for clarity. Though not familiar with Route 66 apart from what I read in reviews, I have used TomTom 6, European map and Slim 240 and therefore can provide a personal perspective.

I am new to this site, only having found it yesterday. I have not even purchased an Axim yet, planning on ordering the X51v today. I am extremely impressed with this site and am happy I found it. I believe it will be a great resource as I learn to use my new toy. I am also new to using forums so please excuse me if I make mistakes.

I am also going to purchase a gps receiver and mapping software. In my research I found Route 66. I have looked for anything on this site as well as on the internet providing reviews or comments from users of this equipment and I have not found 1 reference. I have also looked closely at Tom Tom 6 and iGuidance. I was wanting to know if anyone has had experience using Route 66 software and, if so, how does it measure up to Tom Tom 6 and iGuidance.

I am also wondering if Dell's price of $374 for the X51v is their everyday price or is it really on sale.

I hope Jake does not mind. You can start with Jake's GPS 101 & 102 tutorials as they are quite detailed and should cover some of your questions. Links below:

TomTom6 is up-to-date and made for PDAs, set-up is not too onerous. The Holux Slim 240 is quite small and with a single charge can last for 8 hours. Sorry Route 66 is not my forte.

Dell is discontinuing the Axim line and getting out of the hand held business. I don't know if the prices will fall even lower, but I doubt it.
