I'm a GPS Newbie. I'm thinking of getting my 1st GPS.

I have an Axim x51v & also have the Dell GPS Navigation system software 3 CD set Rev A01, July '06, which was given to me.

My questions:

1) What else do I need to run an Axim-based system & how much does it cost?

2) Would I be better off with an Axim-based or stand-alone system? I've been looking at the Mio DigiWalker C310x GPS Navigation System at Circuit City, which has gotten some great reviews & is on sale for $200 after $100 instant rebate. It would save wear & tear on the Axim. Opinions & advice? :rolling:

You already have an exellent display unit in your Ax (VGA) which is bluetooth enabled. You also have software might not be the best but.... What is missing is a bluetooth enabled GPS receiver.

Upgrading your Ax to ROM A12 should enhance functionality and remove various bugs from previous ROM versions. Also JakeRich's GPS 101 and 102 tutorials on this site are very informative.

From a financial perspective I would acquire a SIRF class reciever which is now standard with many a receiver. Additionally a holder for your Ax will be necessary for ease of use.

However if you are into dedicated devices then the standalone is the way to go. Personally I would not, as it does not allow you to converge and link to your Ax and this may lessen the Ax's value to you.
