4800 baud (serial) wired GPS AND Bluetooth receiver. Does it exist?

Hi all,

I've got a particular application I want to run alongside the more typical GPS usage.

I was wondering if a GPS device exists that has both Bluetooth and a wired serial port. Preferably with a selectable baud rate, but it absolutely MUST have 4800 baud (38400 is nice to have, but I have applications that won't accept the higher baud rate).

I work on mega/super yachts and I'd like the ability to use my GPS to troubleshoot our monitoring system. I'm also an amateur radio operator and I want to be able to us this GPS to track my position so I can use the APRS system. I also want to use it for the more traditional mapping/directions/location stuff.

BT would be more convenient in the car and the wired part would be used for APRS.

Yes, I want the best of both worlds I know! So does anybody know if such a device exists?

Regards,

Also the iTrek Z1, which has the added function of recording fixes internally for later downloading.

Sorry fellas, by "serial" I meant RS-232, as in COM1, as in DB-9, as in "compatible since 1983" serial ports. USB is nice, but most of the troubleshooting I deal with involves industrial-grade stuff that still uses rock-solid, interoperable, mission-critical plain-jane serial ports.

I've built a serial port cable using a MAX3232 for my x51v, and would LOVE to use that to interface with a boats systems, using the bluetooth function of the GPS, and when I drove away, plug that same GPS into the 4800-baud serial port of a TNC for APRS operating.

Then theres those times when it makes more sense to have the GPS plugged into the serial port (low-power operation when you don't know when a power outlet will be available for example).

Looking into this....

My SD is occupied, but I think the point is to use the battery of your X51V, and use its BT. I bet I could rig something that would provide power to use when the PDA is unavailable. It seems to be 4800 baud and have an optional cable that would give serial streams.

And it seems Haicom has something else right up my alley:

It seems to have the "ps/2" style connector, and they show a DB-9.

I like the idea of:

Quote:
Support Standard NMEA-0183 at 19200 bps baud rate (Defined by customer 4800 up to 57600)
That should be something all receivers provide.
