X51v/Garmin XT or Standalone?

I need some advice. I am looking to either get the Garmin 10x w/ XT software for my X51v or buy a standalone GPS unit. By the time I get the Garmin bundle with a powered X51 cradle and a SD card to hold the map of the entire US, I'm looking at $233 shipped. I just bought a TomTom ONE for my wife for $269 out the door. I assume that the Garmin Nuvi 200 will be down to $300 either right away or after a few months in order to compete with TomTom. So there is not a huge price difference between an inexpensive standalone and turning my Axim into something equivalent. I'm looking for some pros and cons and users opinions as to what direction you would go if in my shoes and why.

I think it would be cool to have the maps with me all the time on the Axim, but don't know how functional they would be without the GPS receiver. I also think it would be cool to use the Axim with the receiver when on foot, but the standalone units would work for this also (at the cost of more to carry if I already have my Axim on me). I just don't know if it's worth it to add the functionality to a device I already have or go with a separate unit that is designed to do only GPS navigation...

No one has any opinions on this? I figured everyone would want to chime in with why they would go with GPS for their Axim or a standalone unit…

I have both. It depends to the situation which one I use. I use my Map67csx for out door stuff, and my Aixm with Garmin GPS10 in the car.

If you are just using for street nav.. a standalone will be less frustrating! I have an X50v and GPS10. I like it but went for bluetooth and PDA because I use OziExplorer as it allows me to use an almost unlimited raster map resource for outback travel in my homeland, Australia. No standalones would let me do that.

Old Que works on the X50 but XT doesn't. Had XT working on WM5 update so it should be okay on X51v but X50v unstable on WM5 so back to WM2003.
