Perhaps youre right about being too broad.

What i meant is that PPC GPS is unreliable as compared to online map tools such as Yahoo, MapQuest, etc. I do understand that some of your points still pertain including the technology of GPS covering 4 million miles of US highways, but why is my GPS lost when I'm enroute using the map from Yahoo? Its not the same route but the same maps from NavTech.

hockey98, it is probably the difference in the routing engine used at the online places and Mapopolis. The maps are the same, but the software decides how to use that information. So, if Mapopolis sets an expected speed of 54-60 mph on a stretch of road and Mapquest sets 60-64 and Yahoo sets 58-62 for that same stretch, if you plan for fastest travel, it is more likely to be used by Mapquest than Yahoo and by Yahoo more than Mapopolis. As a result, the three systems will produce three different routes. None of them are "right" or "wrong" just different.

I plan using MS Streets & Trips on my desktop, Mapquest and my handheld with Mapopolis or Routis or Destinator, depending on where and how I am travelling, then I pick the one I want and think is best for me and drive it. If it's one of the non-Axim versions, I print it and drive it, following it with but ignoring the prompts from the Axim until it re-routes to agree with what I want.

Sometimes, however, I just plan it on the Ax and follow it just to see the new scenery! For a real treat, try "shortest" sometime on a longer trip and enjoy the view.
