Just bought an Ambicom GPS (CompactFlash)

that goes into my Dell Axim X5 Basic CF slot. I have 256 MB of Secure Digital storage in the SD card slot.

I paid $179 and with the Axim it is a really nice combo.

Likes and dislikes about this card

+) has an external antenna connector
+) installation was a breeze. Worked instantly
+) external antenna included
+) card offers a powersave mode

-) sticks out very far out of the CF slot (mechanical instability!)
-) no full GPS navigation software included

I haven't tested it much so far, but the unit will go on a USA cross country drive in about a week. Any software suggestions for such a trip?

Read some of the reviews here. Another package is Mapopolis, which, IMHO, is the best currently available for most users. Routis is also really nice, and PowerLOC Navigator is very competitive. It becomes a matter of style and your own pattern of usage that determines which might be "best" for you.

I'm looking into purchasing one of these cards. Is it still working well for you? How does it compare to similarly priced cards?

I have had an Ambicom 802.11b WiFi CF card for some time now, extreamly pleased with its ease of setup, performance and compleatness of drivers and overall operation.

Ambicom appears to have a very good track record with there products, I give them 2 thumbs up. Hope that helps anyone exploring there product line, included the above mentioned GPS card.
