Deluo universal GPS- car lighter

Is it safe to leave the universal GPS plug in the car lighter
even when u are not using it? I use my gps not that regularly.

Does the car-lighter plug powers Axim as well as GPS or only
the GPS? If it does both then how come my Axim works with
reduced back light?

I leave mine plugged in all the time. I've seen no ill effects.
Yes, it powers both the GPS and the Axim.

You must go to settings/system then brightness - there you will see the settings for Dim or not to Dim based upon battery and/or external power.

Best Regards,

Paul

That brings back the first question. Whether the GPS
and Axim both are getting power from car-lighter?

If yes, than is it okay to set the settings for the battery
with good brightness. Am I right in presuming that it
will not drain the battery on a long trip?

It should provide the power. If the on/off button is lit green or orange, it's getting power. You can then set the External Power settings to bright and the battery will stay charged. I have my Ax set to full bright on External power, one up from dark on battery. With that dramatic shift I can tell when the power plug gets dislodged by some bump in the road.

Thanks Jake. It was pretty confusing as Axim gets charged when connected to AC power and not through Active Sync. When we
connect to cigerate lighter, the conventional source of charging
(AC plug) remains open and only GPS cable remains attached.
So logically Axim is now on battery power. (unless there is a way
which I do not understand).

There are two ways to get power into the Axim. The little round socket on the bottom where the AC power plugs in when it's NOT in the cradle, and through the bottom port on the Axim where the sync cable attaches. The Dell Cradle and the third party USB charger cables use that bottom port, as does the cigarette outlet power cord that comes with the Deluo Universal GPS receiver. So, if you use that cord, when power is available to the cigarette lighter it should be available to the Axim and the on/off button should light up to show that the Axim is receiving extenal power. It's not on battery power when the on/off is steadily lit.

Thanks Jake for clearing my doubt. Well I have a basic unit and
hence do not have a cradle and probably that is from where the confusion started.
