There are plenty. Do a search here for "GPS" or "map" and you'll get lots of opinions.

My personal favorite is Mapopolis Navigator.

Regards.

if you aren't using it as a GPS then your cheapest solution might be Microsoft Streets and Trips 2004. You can find it now for 35 at amazon. Its a PC program and it comes with Pocket PC software as well. You make a map of the area you'll be driving and put it on your axim and you've got everything you'd get from a Mapsco and more.

If you do have a GPS system, try TomTom Navigator 2, Mapopolis Navigator, or Destinator 2

I'm using PocketMap Navigator to generally good effect. Great graphics. Wander around this site and you'll find opinions on just about all of the mapping software that's readily available.

I'm also looking for GPS mapping software. Do any of these offer a free trial? I really like the looks of tomtom, but it's a bit pricey.

The Mapopolis (http://mapopolis.com) software is FREE.

They have DEMO maps that expire in 9 days. The demo map you get is the Navigator series, the top of the line maps.

You can buy them one at a time, or get a Map Pack, North America runs $99, but its well worth it as it also comes with Major Roads.

how is it at routing and waypoints? I do like the 3d view that destinator and tomtom offer.

Actually you can pick up the Navigator MapPack for $89 at various places. The Place Guides (POI), however, are sold separately for $25.

Personally I've only looked at Streets and Trips and Mapopolis. Sure Streets is cheap, but it's a pain in the ass to actually find anything with. I'd say spend the bucks on Mapopolis download all the maps you can stomach and be extremely happy with your purchase. Streets and Trips will likely just leave an ill feeling in your stomach.

I highly recommend downloading Mapopolis and a couple demo maps. It's very nice.

I will toss in my opinion of pocketmap...its great, works without a hitch. Everything you need runs on the axim after the install, voice sounds fine. I got the package with the GPS unit as well and they played well together :-)
