I'm currently using teletype w/ teletype bluetooth gps.
Getting fed up with it-- it is TOTALLY not in-car friendly.
Whats the best one for in-car use, with finger-optinion?
There is no "best" they all depend on what you like and how you want to work with it. Plus, depending on where you are, either the TeleAtlas or Navteq maps are more accurate, and sometimes accuracy of maps is more important than features of software.
Do some reading of comments, plus the software reviews, to see how the various systems work. Since you have teletype, you know what you like and don't like, so pick the one that seems to suit you best.
any suggestions?
I'm in the NE in NY, so I have a feeling most maps are going to be pretty accurate (teletype's accuracy is pretty good)
All I really need is something to show me where I am, god routing functions (i.e., I type in an address and let it route). Most importantly, big buttons, so I don't need a stylus.
Both TomTom and iGO/OCN are very finger friendly. Both use TeleAtlas maps.
iGuidance uses NavTeq maps, but it's not as finger-friendly as the other two.
As of right now, I think iGO/OCN has the most updated TeleAtlas maps - though no telling when TomTom will relese updated maps. And iGuidance should be coming out with their latest version with TTS (Text-to-Speech) soon with updated maps.
im a BIG fan of tomtom 6. great one finger use, visually is very helpfull, and even making configuration changes or setting a destination is easy with just your finger.
Which mapping program can be used on both a laptop and the Axim X51V?
IGuidance 3.0/3.1 comes on a DVD that has software for PC, PPC and UMPC. Once you generate a map on the PC, it can be easily be copied and used on any platform.
I have a Garmin Palm based GPS, but it is not really finger friendly while driving.
I found a site that has some sort of add ons for using fingers (I've not tried these yet, but keep thinking I would) here is the site: Garmin GPS Handhelds - PDA street forums
I previously used OCN5 but switched to Iguidance 3 and have been quite happy with it. As far as finger friendly it's does well for the things you'll need to do while driving (I.E. not entering a new route). You can also to some extent re-assign the hard buttons to say hotkey things like detour, fullscreen, menu, mute, etc.
Iguidance 4 will be out soon (week of 6/25/07) and I'm anxious to compare it to OCN6 mainly to see if the GPS syncing issues are gone.
I live under Lake Ontario and I've haven't had too many issues with map errors. The Navteq maps seem to do quite well in this area and I've also used it all over the US and haven't run into any major issues.
I would wait till iguidance 4 comes out and see if they do a money back guarantee then test our iguidance and OCN.
