X5 Dock GPS

Hi guys, I've had my trusty x5 for a few years and I recently bought the cable to connect a Pharos igps-360 to my Axim X5's dock connector (the one under the unit). When I try to plug it in, nothing happens except the unit slows down tremendously. I tried using the GPS jumpstart program (from pharosgps.com), but if I set it to COM5, it says something along the lines of "open port". If I try COM1, the unit seems to do nothing.

Any ideas for troubleshooting this unit?

Alex

Activesync looks at that port for any activity, and if it sees it, it fires off the handshake process, slowing the X5 to a crawl. To avoid that, start the GPS software first, get it looking at COM1 for the receiver and then plug it in on the bottom. That sequence will block the port from Activesync (it'll be held by the GPS software) and prevent the handshake startup.

And no, you cannot kill Activesync sufficiently to make it stop. It's a function of the O/S.
