That's EVERY license, so when they offer an "update" that counts as a new license for which they must pay. And the databases need to be customized by the software vendor to fit with their own data and security schemes because Navteq, et al, distribute the data in their own format, so in addition to the outright license cost there are labor costs involved in the database conversion and integration. That economic reality is why very few companies offer just updated maps--the cost for them would be pretty high, people would complain about how they might as well just buy another product, etc, etc. So when companies like iGuidance offer any upgrade discount they are trying to keep their customer base loyal to them by making it slightly better to stick with what you know than to risk a new product.
Just thought you ought to know how the market works.

I understand all of that but why do they offer such an old version? I know that there are newer versions out since Q3 2006. Any thought on that?
edit: never mind. it looks like that in fact may be the latest version available.

Yep, and don't think that just because it says Q3, 2006, that it has every road updated to be deadly accurate as of that time. Navteq and the others all survey the roads on a cyclic basis, concentrating more frequently where there are large changes or large populations. Rural areas are less frequently visited. If a new development has gone in recently, it may or may not be in the Q3, 2006 version, depending on where that area particular area is in the cycle.

I just got the IG4. Installation went fine. The interface is pretty much the same as version 3.1. The TTS is OK on PPC. I have 1 problem with this new version. When I enter the destination address using Contact, I got the error "strabbr.bin is missing". It's OK if I enter the address manually. I hard reset the PPC and reinstall the IG4, same problem. Just sent an email to iNav customer support. I'll try to use the software more today to see.

I got confirmation from iNav saying that they could re-create the issue at their end. However, the programmer who is responsible for that portion is out until 3rd week of July. We just have to wait for the fix.

bton:
If you have the DVD for iGuidance version 3, the missing file is available there. If available, copy it to the \iNav iGuidance\Maps folder. I ran into the same problem and that resolved the issue for me.

sk2005k:
You should be able to resolve the problem by copying the entire \ScanSoft folder from the iGuidance version 4 DVD and placing it under the \iNav iGuidance folder on your SD card.

If someone has the time, I would appreciate your emailing a copy of strabbr.bin. I am thusfar in a bit of a twist with my online registration because I won't have access to my laptop for over a week, so I can't do the electronic activation. Additionally the iNav website registration is balking. Don't know when I'll get squared away with tech support on this registration/activation issue. But I indeed paid my dues ($99 + shipping) to buygps.com.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks. I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow for 10 days and really wanted to have the contact look up feature. iNav still hasn't fixed the registration process so we can get access to the support download area.

I presume you meant 5 hz, as in 5 updates per second? And if you do mean that, consider this: At 60 mph you travel about 88 feet each second. If you get a 5hz update receiver, then you'll get a fix every 18-18 feet. With an error rate of 15-25 feet (3-5M), assuming you have a WAAS fix (25-40 feet if you don't), then the possible error is larger than the distance from the previous fix, meaning that the fix may actually be behind the last fix, if the errors are in the wrong directions. Five hertz fix reporting is a gimmick, adding little real value to the process, IMHO.

Has anyone seen the $10 exchange upgrade?
It was within the link provided by the email they sent.
Now it seems to have vanished.
I have been waiting for them to update us on that offer.
My purchase fall well within the time frame.
