I was just notified that iGuidance v4.0 is being released next week. I've been using 3.0/3.1 for the last year and am very pleased with it. Just wondering if it is worth spending $79.00 plus to upgrade to the newest version.
New V4 features include:
New Navteq map including Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands
Text to speech (TTS) (street name in voice guidance)
Extended POI listings (6 millions)
Pre-generated seamless map file for entire N. Ame (1.3GB)
Automatic font sizing for POI's w/ long names
Fullscreen easy toggle for car pc/UMPC w/o keyboard
I like the idea of new maps and POI's..... Yeah, I'm sure I'll pop for the upgrade.
Just to piggyback on this with perhaps an unanswerable question: how often should I anticipate a new version? I bought 3.0 right at the beginning of the year. It looks like to me it will have been out about a year by the time 4.0 gets here. I don't travel a huge amount, and sadly, I probably can't get 4.0 in time for my major road trip leaving 7/4. So could I anticipate 5.0 about a year from now? If so, I might wait.

I have iGuidance 3.01 too. Since I purchased mine last January, I may be able to get a free upgrade. Like they did when 3.0 came out last June. Hopefully, they will. When it does come out, you may want to go to their WEB site and see if you can get an upgrade at a reduced price. It's worth a try anyway.

Thanks.
They've come out with a new version in late June the past three years. So, I'd anticipate annual updates. You're in the same situation as I am. Hopefully, they'll give us a free upgrade.
Perhaps the most significant change in this version is the introduction of the software activation procedure. iNav Corp has been resisting implementing this procedure for a long time - longer than their competition. But I think many of us can understand why iNav is adopting this measure, even though this new "feature" is not going to be popular among users.:rolling:
* A few days ago a user of this forum mentioned info received from one of the iGuidance distributors - apparently the distributor said there would be two separate products sold separately a PPC program and a PC program. This is NOT true. As always a purchased DVD will contain all the available versions of the program - PPC/Laptop/UMPC. But it will be now required to activate the program before the first use.

I wish they would tell us what the date of the maps is. I sent them an email but no repsonse yet. I hope they are fairly current or I may wait until next year.

I would like to see an updated map that would show the increase in subdivisions that are being developed everywhere but even without it having 6million POI listings may in itself be enough to justify the purchase. I decided to take the plunge and I have ordered the upgrade. I guess we will just have to get use to seeing a new version every June and at that time determine if we want to take advantage of the offer. I would like to see them offer an option where we could stop those continous messages telling us to turn around when we it thinks we have missed our turn. It would be nice to have a recalc button that we could click and it would recalc instead of having to wait for it to stop telling us to make a u turn and then recalc a new route. That feature IMHO would be worth paying for an upgrade.
I have iGuidance 3.01. This is not a bargain, IMO. It's only $20 off the purchase price at our "preferred" vendors. This pricing model does nothing to build customer loyalty. With such a small price difference, I'd be just as inclined to buy someone else's product.
Another new feature is Text-To-Speech for the road you have to make the next maneuver on. There's a link to a sample in the GPSPassion link that sk2005k provided in post #8. Unfortunately, the navigation voice is slightly different than the TTS voice and the program uses both in the same verbal instructions.

Sorry to chime in. When I am towing my TrailManor travel trailer, I prefer to go a mile or two our of the way to avoid a u-turn. You might look at OCN6. One of the setting will let you control u-turns. You can completely deny them. It will only have you do a u-turn if that is the only option like if you are on a dead end road. You also have the option to specify how many additional miles you are willing to travel to keep from doing a u-turn. My questiion is why somebody did not think of it sooner?
