IGuidance V4 map update lags behind
I just installed/testrun IG v4 and found that the map fall waaaaay behind. Driving only 50-60km/hour I pass the turn at least 2 seconds before the map shows I am at the turn location. Sometimes even the (beep) warning to turn is as far behind. In otherwords, I am already in the turn or completed it before I am told to turn. I never had this problem with v3 BUT.... When I installed the patch for v3 I had the same problem.
Anyone else notice this lag in map updates for v4???

What pda, what processor speed, how much memory do you have free when you start the application? There are many factors in performance. With this new version, the map size can be problematic if you have limited memory and a slow card on which the maps are installed, for example.

I installed v 4 the other day and it locks up my x50v in about 2or 3 miles of routing. A change to 3d view from 2d also locks the unit up requiring a soft reset each time. I have this axim dedicated to gps with no other software unless it came on the unit. I have a 2 gig sandisk ultra II sd and the same in a cf but the maps are on the sd. I have reloaded the software to no avail. I have emailed support at inav but have not heard back yet. I'll keep you updated.

Hmmm, that setup is close to my setup except I have a X51v & so far no lockups. I set the processor speed to 624mhz but that makes no difference. Processor speed does not improve the map updates
Do/Did you have version 3 running on this pda. If so, how did it work?? On my pda version 3 (without the update released last fall?) worked fine. I guess I should have known better and live by the rule "if it works, dont fix it"

Dell X51V with 256mb ram (190+ free) and 2gb SD card. The processor speed set to 624mhz. There is nothing else installed on this pda.

This is unfortunate cause I was hoping for a successful operation with the new version before I upgraded. I think I will wait before I do but if there is anyone who has a remedy or the new version does operate with more fluidity after install please reply and let us know.

My unit worked fine with the previous version and the update I downloaded from the web site. I only had some minor routing anomalies like taking me in circles or taking me off the hiway just to put me back on but that was much different than what I am experiencing now. This is a case of complete freeze and lock up of the pda. I have set the speed to 624 and I have made sure the battery is fully charged, and like I said I have no other installed software, just the v4.

I tried something drastic. Trashed everything on my PDA and re-installed. This time V4 was installed on the PDA NOT the SD card. A slight improvement but still no where near the speed of v3. :realmad:
I may have to write this update off as a bad mistake (for now).

The following is a reply from support on what they wanted me to try, I tried it and things were no better. I have emailed them back with the results.
I have another x50v that I will try v4 on but I think it is a software problem or a bug in the dvd I recieved.
I'll keep you updated.

There's no compatibility issue between iGuidance v4 and your X50v as it's one of the standard unit we test. We recommend that you check & do the following:
1) reboot your BT338 receiver using the gpsinfo software which came w/ your receiver. When done, be sure to fully exit out of it or it will cause com port conflict w/ iGuidance
2) reinstall your iGuidance on your PPC
3) since iGuidance v4 is "new" to your PPC, you will need to go through the steps outlined in Section VIII step 1-3 of iGuidance Installation Guide to reconfigure the bluetooth connection w/ iGuidance v4.
4) when done, click on start > settings > memory > running programs to make sure no other programs that might be using same com port is running and close other programs which you don't need in order to maximize free memory for route calculation.
5) w/ your iGUidance launched, check your program memory to see if you have enough memory. For normal routing, min. of 15-20MB onboard main program memory (NOT storage memory) is recommended.
Thank you.

Just got back from a 1000 mile round trip and didn't have a bit of problem with any lag, or any lockups on my WM5 X50v. My only complaint is how SLOW it was to recalculate when I decided to take another route (which was a much better road through the North Carolina mountains) as it kept wanting me to make a U-turn for about 8 miles before recalculating. The funny thing was that on the trip in it used the roads that I used on the way out. This was the original version from the DVD as I didn't have time to check for updates before leaving. I did copy the missing file from the V3 so I could use the contacts (the missing file was installed in the V3 map directories that I had on the SD card so I didn't have to look for the DVD).
