The GPS is a
one-way, passive, receive only system as stated by ThatGuy and JakeRich.
Otherwise it would be very difficult to use by the military in the field because you can detect a transmitter.
GPS has
nothing to do with the internet, which is a
two-way, transmit-receive system !
If you want others to know your position you must tell (transmit) them in some way - phone, internet, radio etc.

I don' understand the logic of this statement.
Google Earth Plus/Pro needs to communicate the GPS data in a way, which is not supported by
all GPS receivers.
So, the VITO seems to be a good choice.
