If you try to BC-307 off ebay, don't order it from jomo_r. I ordered it over three weeks ago and never got it. I asked Paypal to refund my money. I checked the vendor feedback and there were three other complaints in the last few days from people who ordered a CF GPS from this guy and didn't receive it.

Followup on previous post. I filed a dispute with Paypal and it looks like the transaction has been reversed. My guess is that he put the items up on ebay in the expectation that he was going to get some in inventory and they never showed up. The guy sells a lot of different stuff on ebay and 4 out of 5 complaints over the last 7 days were concerning BC-307s.

I went over to Semsons last night and ordered one from them.

joel:

That's exactly why I did not order off ebay. Semsons is awesome and very responsive. Enjoy the GPS--it's a great unit!

Joel - I ordered mine from jomo on ebay ($69) and received it within 3 days.

Not sure why he is having a problem now, but at the time I got mine (about 6 weeks ago) his feedback was about 97% at that time.

It looks like he has had a bad month (90% feedback), but I would still recommend him based on my experience. Of course just like anything else on ebay you are taking a chance, but for half price I would do it again.

As tex said, enjoy your GPS - I love mine :)

I've been monitoring his auctions for about a week now and haven't seen it go for much less than $100. $69 was a steal.

I know :) .

Try to grab one of the cards he has labeled for IPAQ or something else (make sure that it is the GlobalSat CF, though) because it restricts the number of people who are bidding (they think it cant be used on theirs).

Mine was an auction for IPAQ 5555 (and was in British pounds too).

I ordered mine from Jomo - there was about a 2 week delay before he sent it and then it 'got lost in the post'. I emailed him and received a new unit within 3 days including the antenna, vent clip and charger. He may be slow but he did come through with a good product at a good price.

rfortune - His feedback was okay when I ordered the unit over three weeks ago. I didn't even get it on auction, I payed the "Buy it Now" price.

I just checked the feedback on ebay again. It is up to five people who said they didn't get their CF GPS cards, all in the last three days.

I'm saving documentation on all this, because I got an angry and threatening email from him today. He wasn't happy about me posting about my experience on a discussion group.

I recently got the GlobalSat BC-307 GPS. I have used it with MS Street & Trips 2004 on my Axim and on a Dell Laptop with Win98. I also have used it with topo maps from National Geographic.
The have topo maps for all of US. They can be seen at www.topo.com. I have many of the western states. You can move sections of the topo maps to your Axim. The process is slow & a little buggy. ( If the map is to big it doesn't tell you until a lot of time is wasted) Also only loads to main memory but you can then move to CF or SD. But you can get a fairly large area in each map. I use for exploring with my 4X4. For hiking the maps could be fairly small. The TOPO! program also works great for printing maps to carry with you. I don't like my laptop on backroads ( dust & shock) but the Axim works fine. Haven't used much with GPS yet but looks like it will be fine.

OK, I'm just a couple mouse clicks away from ordering a BC-307 (actually I am waiting for the arrival of a retro paycheck I have been expecting).....

One last question, if anyone knows......

Since my Pocket PC 2003 upgrade package should arrive any day now (maybe by Christmas??), do we know if the BC-307 will work, or will be made to work, with Pocket PC 2003????

I've been using the Globalsat with Mapopolis for a while. I use it with a RAM mount that I originally bought to work with my old iPaq. I recently used this combo on a trip to Ireland. Worked ok, but the map data for Ireland was very limited.

The RAM mount for the iPaq works pretty well with the Axim; the only problem is that it blocks the stylus, but I don't use it much while navigating anyway. The RAM mount I have uses 2 suction cups to stick to the window. The vent mount works too, but it's awkward getting it on and off the vent and it's limited in how you can position it. The RAM mount is more adjustable.

Big Smile

Earlier this week I received my BC-307 receiver from Semsons and yesterday I received my PocketMap Navigator software. This is my first venture into pocket pc GPS world. The BC-307 worked flawlessly with my Axim. The PocketMap Navigator seems to be well thought out and once I got used to the terminology used in the user manual I created my first route from Blair, NE to Freemont, NE. I went smoothly. I am really impressed by the level of detail in the street map for Blair. For those of you that haven't been to Blair, it is a nice 'small' town. So far, I would recommend the BC-307 plus the PocketMap Navigator software. The only negative comment I have is the voice prompts - sometimes they seem to be speaking with a foreign accent. My wife asked me if the 'woman' prompt was speaking Spanish. Does anyone know of a shade that can be put around the Axim screen to reduce washout in bright light?

The BC-307 works without a problem on PPC 2003. I upgraded to the new OS last month (on the Axim) and am running PocketMap Navigator R2.21.

And yes I bought the BC-307 on ebay, from the Semsons store. They don't alwasys sell the BC-307 on ebay all the time, but I lucked out, it was alot cheaper than their own internet store ($81 plus shipping and tax).

My GlobalSat BC-307 is sitting on my desk at work waiting for me to open and install (I took off today). I will never be lost again (or if I am, at least I will know where I am lost!!).
