GPS Help needed for Noob, answers not found in Search

Hi everyone,

Just got my X51V and I'm trying to setup with Street Atlas 2007 and a Hollux GR-213. I can get the Hollux to talk to the X51V on com port 1, but can't get Street Atlas to find or even offer me any ports besides COM3:IrCOMM, BT UART on COM5, and COM7.

I feel like I'm so close...can anyone help?

Make sure that your x51v is talking to your Hollux GR-213, then make sure the two are "paired" (follow the steps provided by your x51v documentation on pairing).

Now, with the connection active and "pairing" in place, Street Atlas should allow you the choice of your COM1 Port...

No animals or trees were harmed in the production of this post - however, several billion electrons were seriously inconvenienced.

Actually, the gps unit connects to the cradle mount via phone jack, so it isn't a BT unit.

Ah, that helps to know.

Phone Jack? What specifically is the connection type?

It says it's an RJ-11. The jack plugs into the Arkon powered PDA mount and is set that way.

Now I'm totally lost for some reason. I feel like I have an IQ of 26 and speaking at a rocket science convention.

No, no, not at all. Be assured, you are among friends!

98% of my experience is with BT connectivity issues. So your situation is simply different. Let me look at the situation, research it a little further, and we'll see what comes up. :)

How is the connection when it goes to your PDA? Just the data/power port on the Arkon mount?

You will find the gps on COM1. Set your software for COM1 and cradle the Ax. One complication is that Activesync looks at COM1 for syncing, and occasionally it fires up when GPS data arrives. To preclude that, follow this sequence:

1. Connect and power up the GPS with the cradle. (The GPS draws all power from the cradle, so you have to provide power to the cradle for the GPS to work at all.)
2. Start the software on the PPC. In your case, that's the Street Atlas 2007. Configure it for COM1/4800 baud. (You should have to configure it only the first time, it should remember it after that.)
3. Get the software looking for the GPS. I don't have SA2007, but for most software there is an icon somewhere to start the connection to the receiver.
4. Sit back and enjoy! The software should indicate that it found GPS data, eventually showing a fix.

Jake Rich,

Thanks. Things worked just fine and I'm plotting along happily.

Now if I could only get the device to give voice prompts...
