Question WM5 and Dell GPS compatibility issue

I just received my X50v from an ebay purchase. To my surprise it has WM5 installed (there was no mention of the upgrade but I'm happy). It also included the Dell GPS system. The GPS version is dated May 2005. There were instructions to install an update to make the GPS compatible with WM5, which I installed but now it is giving me an error when I try to load the maps that the version is incompatible.
Has anyone had this problem? What can I do to fix it? Unfortunately, the warranty is expired so I can't go to Dell for tech support.
Thanks for your help.

Which update did you install. The only update that I recall was for the Dutch version.

What version of GPS software are you using? I have version A00 running on my Axim & it runs just fine. I would reinstall the GPS software without the update & see if it works.

How do I tell which version the update is?

What happened was I just installed the GPs software on my pda and it would not run. It keeps locking up the pda and I have to do a soft reset. So there was a piece of paper in the cd holder that stated if you have upgraded to WM 5.0 then you have to download the update from Dell. When I download the updated from dell then when I go into the gps it gives me an error stating it is the wrong version.
So I'm not sure what to do at this point. When I bought from Ebay the guy didn't mention he had upgraded it to WM5. Which I believe I really like WM 5 but I really bought this pda for a gps system (as well as other things but mostly the gps system)
Thanks for your time.

Your software problem sounds familiar. If you have the map CDs from May 2005, then you may need Navteq update 3689. If you go to ftp://ftp.navteq.com you can find it there. Login as user dellpda with pw update1.

Aximsite user Leoroy has provided a list of steps for configuring your system.

Good luck!

I just bought an x51v that came with the Dell GPS Navigation.
I've installed the SW & maps from the 3 CD set "Dell GPS Navigation"
Each CD has a different P/N (part number is what I'm guessing this means),
and CD1 is dates October 2005, and CD2 & CD3 are May 2005.

The SW About lists "Version A00 3684NA.

The deviced is wired to the Axim (so it is not a BT version) and power (it came with a car charger).
[it is inert it if is not plugged in]

It crashes often when in use, if the screen is touched much (list adjusting settings to try different things, or to check other apps).
It works well if you JUST navigate with it.

The 2 times I've used it so far it did not like things and would not start. The error was that it was unsigned (or something like that) or missing a component (something in the SW install).
I have made a backup of the installed parts as bast as I can find them (using Sprite), and have to restore that to get it to run again.
(Perhaps this is connected to using ozVGA in VGA and starting the SW?)

I looked at the site with the updates, but am not sure if I need these.

Can you offer any suggestions?

Right now, it takes about 20 minutes to get the GPS working, due to restoring it when I need to use it (not convenient).
