Avaiable GPS Software that works with my GPS Hardware....

I have a Dell Axim 51v with the Dell Navigator Package - Wired Version, I'm looking to replace the software only, but I'm having a hell of a time getting this info from the companies, I call them and I get voice mail form people who don't check their messages, I've been waiting for 3 weeks for Victoria at iguidence.

Anyway I'm looking for specifics for a replacement:

1) Must work with the Dell Navigator GPS Receiver .

2) Must have a PC interface as well, The Dell Navigator Map loader is just that, a "map loader", I want something I can tweak on the PC. Its a pain to review the route on the PPC in the car and then play "Detour" or add waypoint I wan't to that on a PC and then export that info to the PPC.

these are pretty much what I'd like to do. Thanks.

You said it was a wired GPSr? So it must be using COM1 since its a serial wired port. Does it support NMEA? It should, I can't see why it would not as NMEA is supported on nearly 100% of GPS devices.

If so, any GPS software package only should work e.g. iGuidance, TomTom6, and Garmin. Garmin and iGuidance has a PC application.

Garmin has a proprietary protocol, and for their software they use their protocol. You can use their receivers (the later ones) on software that use the industry standard NMEA protocols, but Garmin software doesn't comply with industry standards.

I going to assume this doesn't exist on ANY GPS package, I can't find information on it anywhere. I can only guess that there are not enough people who expect a more customizable GPS application and so the Software developers are not doing "More than they Need to" at this point. I guess I'll wait till the market demands a Smarter Product.

Don't give up yet. I tried my tomtom 5.2 on my friend's Dell wired GPS receiver and it worked. There is no reason that the newer version of tomtom won't work.

But you need to do the following to make it work.

Lawman is correct. All these programs EXCEPT GARMAN use the NMEA standard. This includes street navigation and topographic navigation programs. I do believe the Dell support NMEA and I believe mingjhwang's post confirms that. You just point the GPS program at a com port whether you use wired or bluetooth. As far as I know there are only two programs that include both PC and PocketPC programs. For street navigation, that is iGuidance. For topographic Navigation that is Memory-Map Navigator.
