Wired GPS - doesn't work on X3i...

Hi!
I bought a wired GPS (Haicom 4 in 1 HI-701). It's connected to Serial COM1. The thing is my Axim x3i doesn't seem to see the GPS receiver at all. Everything is properly connected and powered (the receiver gets synchronized with satellites, the LED blinks regularly). Baud = 4800 set up. The serial port is OK I guess, I am not experiencing any problems with PC synchronization.

I searched the net and found two possible fixes:
1) Settings->Connections->Beam->Receive all incoming beams should be unchecked (DONE)
2) In the registry the name of the serial port should be readable and not contain weird characters (DONE - it wasn't the case).

It's not a software (TOMTOM) problem, I downloaded a native tool from the company web site, and it doesn't see the GPS on any interface too.

Could anybody help me?
Regards,
Matchay

I don't have an X3, but here is a sequence that worked on an X5 and X50:

The problem is that Activesync is looking at COM1 all the time for any activity. If it sees data there, it triggers the handshake for syncing, blocking the mapping software from seeing the GPS data.

So, to block AS from that port:

Start with the GPS unplugged from the X3. If it has a separate power cord, it's ok for that to be plugged in.

1. Make sure nothing else is tying up com1. A soft reset is best, but you can also just make sure all applications are really stopped, not just pushed in the background.
2. Start your GPS application, point it to COM1, get it looking for the GPS receiver.
3. Plug in the GPS receiver, it should now get power, get started and signal to the X3.
4. Wait a few seconds and you should see data flowing.

Thanks, I didn't find this advice before (although I searched the net pretty decently). In a few days I am going to check it out. I will report here :)

Cheers,
