Aximsitex50icon Axim x50v Car Dock

Hi,

I recently bought a Holux GPSlim 240 and it works a treat, but I need a car mount for my axim. Does anyone have any recommendations? I need it to be powered as BT drains the axim battery. Also, as I'm based in the UK, does anyone know of where I could get one at a reasonable price? (not expansys, they are really taking the **** with their prices!!)

Look at the Brodit Proclip range. You can get them from dsldevelopments.com. I'm in the uk and I am well satisfied with mine and can recommend them.

Arkon

Have an Arkon universal that I'm giving to my sis.
Upgrading to an Arkon powered mount.
Semsons has a sale on this one.

It seems to be a clearance item as Arkon is marking them down too on their site.
They're cheap but I've been seeing a few complaints about the speaker quality and I don't think it works with the extended battery because it looks to me that you dock your Axim with it like the home cradle and then clamp it in at the sides.
This is kind of nice as with my current mount, I have to get the power cord, plug it in, plug in the audio to the headphone jack and THEN clamp it in. At least with this model, it looks like you reduce one step.

I have problems now with my universal mount and the battery. When I push the buttons on my Axim, sometimes the battery casing shifts a little and the Axim powers down thinking that the battery latch has been opened.

I personally have my eye on THIS ONE as it's universal (you just have to change the power adapter if you get a different PDA) AND it has a power out for certain GPS models AND a USB power out for a GPS receiver or other device. I find this nice as I'm hoping to reduce the CORD CLUTTER on my console.

Anyway, these are my opinions as I have yet to purchase it but my current Arkon model seems very well made with an ample suction cup on it. It has only fallen off a few times and I'll attubute that to my driving habits and dirty windows.

Also, I had a PROBLEM with the suction cup (during a heatwave so I think it was more environmental not really defective) and after playing phone/email tag a bit, Arkon resolved my issue with no hassles or questions.

Haha I just reread Redeyeksc's post. Looks like his recommondation matches mine. I admit, I'm biased toward Arkon. They impressed me with their support when I had my issue.

Thanks for the input guys. I quite like the Sedio mount as it 'cradles' the axim and holds it in place. Would any of you happen to know who manufactured this one:

PDAMODS store: Dell Axim x50 / x50v / x51v Custom Car Mounting Kit for Tomtom, DELL AXIM X50/X50v/X51/X51v ACCESSORIES

I know that its actually manufactured by another company and that Tomtom have merely re branded it, as I have seen this exact same mount elsewhere. This one looks really good as it supports the axim and even has a charge port for your GPS receiver.

That's exactly like my old one. It had a problem where it would stop charging periodically. It was replaced, free of charge, with their updated model.

Here's the link to BuyGPS now. Thier customer service is excellent and a supporter of Aximsite. :approve:

buy GPS Now - OnCourse Ed 2 Powered PDA Cradle Mount with Integrated Speaker for Axim x50(v) and x51(v)

I love the new mount. Good luck.

kcallahan, you've convinced me to get that one. However, would buygpsnow.com ship to the UK?

I'm not sure. I'd go to their WEB site and ask them if they can ship to UK. Let me know what they say.

They said they would ship to the UK, but unfortunately they only accept credit cards as payment, which I don't have (it's cut up into tiny little pieces ;) ).

That Sux. I thought they took paypal. But, not for international orders I guess. You could ask if they would take a money order. Or, could they refer you to a company in the UK which sells that product.
