Kaiser GPS - Mind boggling!!!

I have tried a variety of GPS devices over the last few years including stand alone GPS units and i have never seen anything lock on to satellites as fast as the Kaiser.

I guess the assisted GPS function which downloads satellite location via Ephemeris makes a big difference but i never for a second imagined that it would be as blazing fast as this. As soon as i downloaded Ephermeris data (took about 5 seconds over HSDPA and data is valid for a week), i got lock on to 5 satellites in 9 seconds flat! Can you believe that?! 9 friggin seconds!!! I had a Nokia N95 before and that would take atleast a minute or two if you are stationary and a couple of minutes if you are on the go. The Kaiser blows the competition out into the blue as far as GPS is concerned.

I wanted to check how fast i would get a lock on if i wasn't stationary so when i went out with my buddies in the evening, i got an opportunity to try it out. You guys are not going to believe this, but at about 60 mph, i got a lock on in 10 seconds straight out! I just couldn't believe it because i've seen stand alone TomTom units take about 30-45 seconds to lock on and this was the Kaiser. I don't know what Qualcomm has done, but whatever it is, kudo's to them. My Holux BT GPS receiver has now found a dark spot in a desk.

Guys, it just doesn't get better than this. :approve:

I'm in the middle of a review of BT GPS that has the same functionality. It is nice to get quick fixes, but frankly, if you use GPS every day the ephemeris data is up to date and the latest GPS units get fixes almost as fast.

One caution on your Kaiser: There are substantiated reports that if you mess with GPS settings at all, or sometimes even if you just run another GPS application, the connections get messed up and the only known fix is a hard-reset.

Thanks for the Kaiser update guys - that's one device that looks really interesting. I have a BT-339 receiver for my X51v and it connects to at least three satellites within a few seconds of power up if my location hasn't changed much from the last time I shut it down. It can take a bit longer if I've changed locations significantly, but still less than a minute.

Don't know, I don't have a Kaiser. You might ask the OP.
